Researching my first suppressor purchase(s). Debating a .22 or a .30 cal or both. Local shop (Carolina Gunrunners) has a Silencer Shop kiosk seemingly making the process easy.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of a one shot trust vs. a traditional trust?

Buying as an individual supposedly has a shorter wait time. If I buy as individual, can I later transfer into a trust for others to use the NFA items? I’m leaning towards a trust, just asking to round out my knowledge.

.22 suppressor
Looking at the Spectre and Sparrow. Any others I need to consider? Which would you buy and why? This will see use on a Browning Buckmark and 10/22.

.30 suppressor
Omega 300 or Chimera 300?
Both use the ASR mount system and are highly regarded. Recommendations? This will be used on a .308 bolt action, .308 AR, 5.56 AR and, naturally, on a .300blk pistol.

My timing to order is within the next few weeks to month. Once ordered, I’ll start the process of threading barrels, etc in prep for that far off day when my toys get released from jail.

Get both!

Yes silencershop makes the process easier since the kiosk does your prints digitally and saves them for future use.

Single shot trust as I understand it is for a single suppressor and therefore each item will have a different owner. This also gives you flexibility in having different people on each trust for only specific items if that matters to you. I prefer the simplicity of all items owned by the same trust.

Yes individual forms have been getting approved faster per NFA tracker.

No, you cannot transfer from one trust to another, or from yourself to a trust... well you can but you’ll pay another $200/item.

Can’t recommend specific cans, sorry. I haven’t kept up on the market all that much.

1. The single shot trusts are just a way to have a separate trust for each item. Easy to control trustees for specific items that way, if that’s something that matters.

2a. Not enough to make a difference. Buy as an individual or a trust because of other reasons...not the wait. HUGE difference in eForm 1 vs paper Form 4, but not that much of a significant difference in individual vs entity.
2b. Yes. For $200 each. But since you’re the transferee and transferor, you get to maintain possession during the wait.

3. Lots of options on the market. The Sparrow is the one can I own that I wish I’d never bought. A 4th Spectre would’ve been a better decision. Look at the Dead Air Mask, Rugged Occulus, EA Nyx, TBAC Takedown, and several others. Spectre is a proven, even if old, design.

4. ASR is one of the last mounting systems I’d use. Omega 300 is a great can. No experience with the Chimera. But there are a wide variety of other options on the market. Not sure why you’re only looking at SiCo products. While I own quite a few of them, they’d be further down my list these days.

Silencer Shop kiosk does make it a little easier in some cases. But doing it completely on your own isn’t tough. I just sold one to @amnesia and we did it all on our own...including prints and photos. It’s just not that difficult.

The TBAC takedown is $395 retail, that’d be my 1st choice. 5.6” x 1” and 5.9oz of grade 9 Ti and SS 17-4 baffles.

For a 30 cal can I’d lean towards TBAC Ultra-7, I like the Omega as well. Make sure you get one that mounts securely without play, like a taper instead of a ratcheting screw on.
I’ve no experience with Rugged or Dead Air.

For the .22 can, the mask is a top can. Decent suppression, easy to clean, good customer service. SilencerShop says it's one of their best sellers in one of their live chats. Now if you want to chase numbers, the SilencerCo Switchback is the current king. Here's a link to some testing. Gets down to sub 110 dB on a rifle. Also easy to clean and good CS but it's kind of pricey. There's also the Rugged Oculus which is also in the decent suppression, easy to clean, good customer service category. Something to keep in mind with the all aluminum cans is that, while they're light, they are a pain to clean. You have to scrub it manually and it gets old. The steel/Ti ones you can drop in an ultrasonic cleaner and walk away for 30-60 min and come back to a clean can.

For your 30 cal can, this depends more on your goals.

Option 1 - casual plinking, hunting, light weight, with an occasional mag dump but strong enough for some light class use:

Check out the Dead Air Nomad, SilencerCo Omega, SilencerCo Omega 36M (this one's new but meters really well), and YHM Resonator R2. They meter well, give you better mounting options than the ASR, and are light weight.

Option 2 - want it to last forever with hard abuse from classes and don't care about weight:

Check out the Dead Air Sandman S, EA Vox S, Rugged Surge, OSS if you are willing to accept a louder can for less backpressure

This isn't an exhaustive list but this is what I've seen the most info on.

As an update... I’ve made some decisions with input from the team with special shoutouts to @BigWaylon and @Pink_Vapor These guys know their stuff and will steer you right!!!

My first cans will be...

YHM Resonator R2 (.30)
Sandman Mask 22 HD

Now I just need to get to the shop to use the magic kiosk to get the proverbial ball rolling.

The online support here (@Pink_Vapor and @BigWaylon ) with the simplicity of the kiosk and helpful staff at Carolina Gunrunners made ordering my first can super easy.

I was in and out of CG in 20 minutes. That includes suppressor fondling time, loading personal info into the kiosk and paying for the actual can (YHM Resonator R2).

Guy said it’s running about 10 months but he’s had some come back as quickly as 23 days!!! Definitely an anomaly there!

I’ll order a .22 can at some point too. Now that I’m in the system, I can order and pay for the stamp online. I won’t have to go to the shop for anything other than to collect new goodies.

How come?
I just think there are better options available these days. And some of the customer service issues through the BOGO were, and still are, horrendous. 18 months later and I know at least two people that don’t have the free silencer. SiCo seems to be too busy designing t-shirts to work on silencers.

For rimfire, no way I’d buy a Sparrow. The Warlock is back but is still all aluminum. The Switchback would be a contender.

For pistols, what do they offer? They’re re-releasing the Octanes with aesthetic changes. Solid cans, no doubt...

For rifles, I’d choose something other than ASR. Omega is still an industry standard IMHO, and the Chimera is still worth a look.

But as a complete lineup, they wouldn’t be my first choice, or probably even second or third.
