So quick story is my 14 year old daughter has been getting into some crap since she started high school. Problem after problem, glimpses of hope then snuck out her window this past Friday. (Side not) the idiot snuck out while my wife and I were awake in the living room (next to her room) and she had the 8 week old puppy in there (while I am getting the cat used to it). Puppy snitched her put eventually and I caught her about 1 1/2 miles down the road.

I would like 2 cameras, preferably with motion detection. 1 for the front door/driveway and the other for the side she would sneak out.

Not sure if it's possible but I would like it to alert me at night if motion is detected. I have tons of animals and birds that frequent the yard so I wouldn't want it on constant.

I am also not rolling in the dough these days so cost is an issue.

Is this even possible?

Totally doable, and very simple if you're just looking for two cameras. If cost is an issue you could probably even find a 4 channel system with IR night cameras for little over 150 bucks. Most of them come with a dvr or head unit for the video and provide either an app or pc interface for monitoring..... If you want something more advanced you can look into Blue Iris which I use but you need to have a pc or server running 24/7. Either route should give you the option to run motion alerts. Blue Iris is great with that and can send a live image to your phone instantly, you can open the door and say hi to her. I'm sure others will chime in too but fell free to message me with any questions.

Example cheap amazon system And if you search theyhave them wireless also.

Get two Arlo cameras. Simple and easy to use.

If she has a cell phone you can put a tracking app on it without her knowing it is there.

You can also go low tech alarm fishing line trip wire, 6V lantern battery with old school door bell
taped to it with clothes pin trip switch. Easy to hide near shrubs if she climbs out the window.

If you need to go extreme, buy a fake ankle bracelet with blinking LED flasher for her to wear.

Check out Nest Cam.

These are great. As long as they have WiFi you can view them from your phone anywhere.

Have you thought about invisible fencing and a shock collar?

She doesn't have a phone now and isn't allowed to "hang out" with her friends. Wife takes her to the bus stop and I try to beat her home. Was on her way to earning the privilege of hanging out but screwed that up sneaking out.

Since school is out she goes to daycare with my 4 year old, haha.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will look into these.

Plus, you can get alert emails when the camera recognizes motion. The alert includes a screen capture of what the camera is seeing.

+1 on the Arlo's. I bought a set at Costco mid August. Caught 3 thugs getting into cars in the neighborhood in October and the footage from the cameras I sent to the police got one of them arrested. Juvi officer recognized kid in the video. Totally wireless and send text and email alerts when it detects movement. Night vision is great as well.

Consider home alarm system, Simply Safe, you can arm it to stay and if any window or door is opened it will chime to alert you and will have to be disarmed to silence it. Central station monitored, you can get discount on your homeowners insurance if central monitored.

The shotshell blank may cause neighbors to call 911 and report shotgun fired in the area.

This is outdoor rated wireless IR motion detector $34 it is standalone alarm.
Can place ground level hidden near the window.

I'll second the Arlos...we upgraded our alarm system and got two of the Honeywell Lryic cameras designed to work with it.
Knowing what I know now, I would of passed on the cameras and gone with the separate Arlo system.

I just looked those up. I like the concept of them being completely wireless, but read where they have no local storage: cloud storage only. No internet = no record. They look a little pricey, too.

Cloud storage is for 7 days if you don't sign for their service (which I don't) but 30 days storage for their basic package. You do have the option to download any clips to an sd card or hard drive which is what I did when my car was broken in to. I paid $350 for 3 camera's and a base at Costco but not having to run AV and power cables through the attic.....priceless.

The biggest draw for me is that they are completely wireless, which means more mounting options. Otherwise you end up with this.

If it weren't for the power cord, I would have it mounted higher on that pillar or closer to the door. Also, no power, no cameras. The Arlo I could at least plug into a UPS along with my router and have cameras despite power outages.

My alarm company is charging me like $15/month for two cameras anyhow, so the monthly charge is moot.

I've got a Blink camera system (inside and out) and absolutely love it. They're not the cheapest but they're completely wireless and the batteries really do last a long time with normal usage. It's also a breeze to switch batteries. They use 2 standard AAs. The only thing you need to be mindful of is that your module stays in range of your wifi and the cameras stay in range of the module. I've got a 2800 sq ft 2 story + a basement and get coverage throughout as well as outside.

How often do you have to recharge the batteries?

3-6 months according to the website, however it probably depends on multiple factors, they use CR123As so I'd either buy a bulk pack from somewhere or look into the Tenergy rechargable they recommend, they are about $30 a 4 pack

Can you say fire hazard? Feel your pain, with a daughter issue, but thenrisk isn't worth it. Better a dispbedient daughter than a dead one. Tough times when kids rebel. Good luck OP.

I'm pretty sure the glass will still break.

Balance vague fire risk against her getting drugged up, boozed up or knocked up.

By this you mean that you can record directly to SD? Or do you mean download BACK from cloud storage to SD, which is a different animal?

Point being that I wouldn't want to cloud-store any of it, even temporarily.

Get motion sensors on the window for your security system and then, set it to stay no delay. If she goes out you got the whole neighborhood waking up.

Make a flower bed below her window and plant some barberry bushes in it. She won’t climb through them but once

I found that a Fat Boy Belt cures some of this.
It does, though I am damn glad there was no such thing as a fat boy belt when i was growing up.

I think I’d take a Fat Boy over the damn barber strop my Grandpa used. My Grandma was almost as bad with her 3 switchs from a Yellow Tip bush or Weeping Willow plaited together ... I swear she taught Indiana Jones how to use a bull whip the way she’d use that.

Thing is now a day though instead of an attitude adjustment the liberal CPS people call it child abuse.

Poison Oak. No not really.

How about a martial arts class, it worked for me but I did not sneak out at night.
My daughters took karate at the Y, we did not have Y membership.

My buddy had his daughter sneaking out a window. He put one of the battery powered door opening sensors on her window when she was gone to school. Put the chime in their bedroom. She had no idea how he knew she was sneaking out.
