It will be "better than unemployment" but never better than that.
I've been applying and interviewing since 2015 to get out of this.
Another recruiter contacted me about a position that could be in PA or north of Atlanta. I'll be following up on that one too. Rather move south than north.
I do plan to push back on the travel demands of everything else falls through.
I needed to call him out on his unreasonable demands. Hel him straight out that he is a pathological control freak who doesn't trust that I can actually get more work done at home than in China. He shares the Chinese corrupt culture of not trusting anyone.
Time to stop being passive. I can no longer let him sacrifice my family at the alter of his own mental illness. Anyone who is so pathologically obsessed with micromanaging and one's own perceived self interest is mentally ill.
He even put the "blame" for increased travel on the engineering director even though I do not report to her.

Side note. This trip showed me that I need to stay at least a little bit angry about the situation. I shut down so much to avoid being angry, that I had trouble reconnecting when I was home.
T trip I eliminated all contact with colleagues outside of the office and others too. The only people I talk to outside work here are at the gym and only at the gym. That contact is just enough to keep from being overwhelmed by the stress of these trips. But still keep that flame just high enough to keep the motivation for finding an escape.

Of course not. I have a big project that I have to "enthusiastically" work on. I should get an Oscar for my performance here the last couple weeks.
They don't have a clue. Given that 90+% of sales revenue is from products that I worked on and have more experience in this product niche that the rest of the engineers here combined, I hope they crap their pants if I end up giving notice.

I just kept thinking "it is better than unemployment." Then I almost laughed out loud when the CTO said that exact thing to my face.
Now I am hoping that if I get the new job it will also mean I can add a Dodge Challenger R/T with a stick to the driveway.

Last day in the office. Boss asked of I was coming in to the office Friday since I did not have to leave for the airport until 12;15. I immediately said "No. I'm packing in the morning." To my surprise, he only said "okay."
Swimming after work tonight. Swimming tomorrow morning, then packing up.
