It's probably been asked and answered, but I'm not having any luck with the search tool. What is the best sight post tool for the SKS? I'm finding a lot of people buying tools that are listed as AK/SKS but the SKS folks say they don't work properly. Any advice is appreciated.

The magna is pretty nice, granted I purchased one and it only works on 2 of my 3 AK’s since the front sight is also the gas block, but the sub $10 ones on eBay work good too.

+1 for the Magna-Matic.

@Tucci454, I have a couple of the cheaper NC Star tools I keep as back-ups - they've worked fine for me in the past. If you PM me your address I'll drop one in the mail for you to keep. If it doesn't work, pay it forward and donate it to someone else.

If you have the buttstock combo tool, the elevation adjusting device is in there. For windage, use a brass or nylon hammer. There is a piece in the buttstock kit that fits over the front sight post and then you use the straight piece as a handle to turn the tool up or down for elevation.

I don't have the kit. It's got a kind of bubba fiberglass monte carlo style stock on it now. That is soon to be changed to a proper wood stock thanks to another member here. I'm trying to get it back to looking like an SKS again. Still need a tool kit and a proper sling. All the important numbers match, and it appears to be an early '67 (or '66 depending on which dating method you choose). I haven't found an import mark yet, so it's a pretty cool old piece.

These are the style I was looking at. Apparently some of them don't fit properly because the ring around the front sight post interferes.

Years ago I ran into that. Just a little grinding in the interfering area fixed it.
