So I've been trapping for a while, but decided I'd make my own bait/lure this year and bought some skunk essence offline with some other trapping items. Picking the box up at the door I assumed the skunk bottle may have leaked. Nope, it was intact. So I put it in a cool area of the climate controlled garage thinking the cooler temp would help. It did not, and my wife has thankfully not noticed YET. (Thats where my life may or may not become endangered) .

Is anyone here familiar with using this stuff and have any idea how to keep that smell inside the bottle it came in? I have not yet opened it and it's not leaking, it just stinks to high heaven.

If you think that smell stinks then I understand when you say you have been trapping for a while but don’t confess you are a trapper.

Just put it under the bed on your wife's side. Once she gets used to it, she won't notice it.

I do ok with the sport, but don't claim to be an expert lol. Just never had a sealed bottle stink up a room. Pic attached of one of my song dogs from last year.

Skunk essence is very stout. It will come through just about anything you put it in. My advice would be to keep it outside the house in an out building or something. I keep all my trapping stuff out in my shed. During the season my truck smells of skunk I call it ode de trapper lol

Kidding aside. Why would you trap skunks? What's the benefit? Asking because I don't know.

here's what i do with "deer lure"....
lure inside ziplock bag with a charcoal brick.
all that inside another bag with another brick.

I was going to say make her think it's coming from her and then she'll never mention it...

Can you put the bottle inside a mason jar or is it too large?

Put it inside another container or two but it will permeate given enough time. That's why your smelling it now, it has permeated the original container....

Incinerate it.

Not "burn", "incinerate".

And then never buy it again.

Or make an anonymous deposit in your ex's car.

Whatever.
