I recently bought a SCCY – II with a red dot. I have a couple SCCY with iron sights and they never let me down. I feel that I wanted to try a handgun with a red dot and this one was priced right. My old SCCY is my car gun when I have others that cost more sitting at my house.

Now for the question, if I really like the red dot and put one on the Glock 19 or Walther PPQ. I had a friend had a stock slide milled for a red dot and it cost him $150 and the rear sight on the slide. Not sure I want to go down that road. I am thinking if I can buy an aftermarket optic ready slide that might be the way to go and I would have 2 slides. I have no idea what a slide for a G-19 or PPQ cost. And if an after-market slide does it come with different mounting plate?

Open for suggestions and ideas.

IMHO Aftermarket Glock slides are fairly $$ vs just buying a new or used MOS gun. But plenty options.
We are probably 3 years away from 90% of all new carry guns coming with an industry standard optics mount.

Just like picatinny rails on everything over the years.

I did a bunch of research a year or so ago and just went and purchased a G19 MOS and haven't looked back.

You can get a slide fairly reasonable but most are stripped, then they are milled for a specific optic like Trijicon and that is ok, a lot of manufacturers are using the Trijicon mounting points. I believe Halosun and Vortex are using the Trijicon mounting dimensions.

A stripped slide is going to run anywhere from $200 - $500. An upper parts kit is going run $100 give or take. Then your iron sights so to speak. If your going to have around $500+ in it, I chose to go buy an MOS.

Yes the aftermarket slides look cooler but I don't care about that. My intention for the G19 was for CC, if it was going to be a range toy then that is different.

Check out my thread, Gen 3 G19 cut for standard Glock MOS plates.

TSConver, the question that I have when you have your slide custom cut, are you stuck with the plate that only works with the brand red dot that you started out with?

If you use a plate system, you just swap out the plate if you want a different optic. I cut a lot of pistols

Nope we used a CH Precision plate for the vortex site. It uses the standard Glock MOS mounting points. So any MOS plate could be used for the cut on mine.

I did the same math - you can go cheaper but it adds up quick. Find a used MOS, sell the frame if you want.
