Does anyone shoot with a slight cant on their handgun? Not like gangster style, but a hold at about 11 o'clock, or 1 o'clock for southpaws? It seems like a more natural position for me, and I've heard some instructors say if it is more natural or comfortable then to do it.

I think a fair number of people have a slight cant that goes unnoticed.

Lots of people cant when shooting single handed, opinions vary on whether it is bad, I've known some LE that were taught to do it in their academy.

So far as national trainers Vogel I think said at the typical distances that one is required to shoot one handed it is not a big deal if it's minor. Stoeger will jump on you for any at all he is very accuracy driven and it will change your POI/POA relationship, more noticeably with distance, of course if you're shooting 6" groups you're unlikely to notice an inch or two shift. I prefer everything as near the same as I can get it all the time, so I hold the gun pretty vertical, I do battle a slight cant WHO, which is how I learned the depth of Stoeger's opinion.

I'm right handed left eyed. Always have had a slight cant. As Bailey Boat said..at true self protection ranges it simply does not matter.

Indeed, many cross dominant shooters feel more comfortable shooting the gun.

I try and keep it vertical, but do cant it for single handed, in which case I slightly favor the magazine side of the gun when I hold on the target.

Not with a handgun, but I definitely shoot with a cant on the rifle. Granted, it's position shooting (standing and sitting) but it's enough that I need to compensate with about 1-1/2 MOA of windage. And I too am a southpaw.

As far as shooting with a cant... there are the folks that have a natural tendency to cant the gun and there are folks who shoot with a cant because they have a bad position. One can always learn to compensate for the latter if you shoot enough, but it's certainly not the best way to do it.

As for me? I'm a mix of the two. Supporting a 17 lb rifle in the offhand position causes me to slightly cant the rifle. As for sitting, I simply had a bad position and adapted to it over the years since the AR is pretty forgiving that way.

Only when shooting one handed

I shoot with a cant when shooting weak hand. it allows me to get a clearer site picture and perceived smoother trigger break.

I'm also cross-dominant, and have experimented with different methods for dealing with it, and the cant seems to work best. I went for 20 years without firing a gun, and didn't know anything about cross-dominance when before I stopped, so now it's like I'm a n00b all over again.

I also find that 3-dot sights look like a constellation.

With a rifle, I'm just going to keep on Sgt. Yorkin' it.
