Crossing over from another thread that I posted about making a socket holder, tonight I got 80% through with this little project.

Backstory: Seven or eight years ago I picked up a cheap ratchet/socket set to toss in a small bag that I kept on the dirtbike. Five inch long, 1/8" drive ratchet (approximate on the length) with three sockets (metric) and a few bits. It's a great little tool to keep on the bike, weighing almost nothing.
But I didnt want to have the items loose in the bag, didnt want to keep it in the original packaging.

Anyway, I like Altoids tins and the like, but those wouldnt work with this, too short. A bit back I picked up some chocolate from TJ Maxx or Marshalls for, like, $2 and it came in a small tin.

Decided to use this for this project, something to just try out some tools I have, see what I could do. Nothing special

Took a piece of wood (1x3 or 4) and traced, best I could, the tin onto it.
Popped it on the scroll saw and cut it to shape.

Then came tracing the ratchet and cutting it out, which was a bit harder/time consuming.

After the cutting and then a lot of using the dremel to shape it up, I got this.
Also, added a little bevel for my finger to slip in a little more

I got to pick up the vise for the drill press this weekend, then i'll drill out the holes for the sockets (and need to find some shorter ones in the sizes I want/need), as well as the phillips and flat head bits

Its too much work for what purpose it serves, as people have suggested, I could have used foam or something and been easier...but, dangit, I like tinkering and figuring out how to use my various tools better.

Well crap...
On THE LAST HOLE, I went to release the vice and had a brain fart in my haste, went the wrong way JUST A TAD...that's when I heard the pop.
Thought I might be able to save it with glue, but messing with it made it worse and I eventually said "the heck with it, I'll start over" and broke it off.

But this gives you an idea of what the finished product will be like. Had it not broke I'd have sanded it a little, put some stain on it, and then put it in the tin and been done.
That close.

FYI - the bigger holes are for sockets, the smaller three for screwdriver bits

You obviously need a CNC Router.

Oh, I NEED a lot of stuff. But dont have it, cant afford it.
I have to make do with what I DO have
-drill press
-scroll saw
-circular saw
-cordless drill
-belt/disc sander
-dremel
-handtools (files and such)

That's it.
I'll continue to add to the garage as time goes.
But right now my focus, and funds, are on other things.

I was joking, buying a $10k piece of equipment for a $5 project.

That said, using what you have I’d do the cutout on the scroll saw so you’ve got wood all the way around to reduce rattle, you’ve got plenty of room.

Oh, I didnt know the cost of them.
And, the cost is much lower than $5, it was free wood from a furniture factory. And I have lots of it (forget what my dad told me it was, European...something).

I did the scroll saw for most of the cutout for the ratchet, then the dremel to smooth things out.
