Considering all the available options, which pistol/can combo could be assembled that would give you the smallest "legitimate" suppressed firearm? I put the word legitimate in quotes because I wanted to steer clear of more novelty items. Also, wondering about commercially available, non-custom stuff.

I'm assuming this would be a .22 pistol, but which one and then which can?

I think the smallest I have seen was a Beretta 22, with a tiny can, that had replaceable wipes in it, the dealer said he had a hard time unloading that can because wipes are such ancient technology, and the can itself was only $185, which is kind of hard to justify with a $200 tax stamp. The can was the size of a small LED flashlight, maybe 3 inches long and half an inch in diameter.

I remember seeing a Bobcat with a Bowers Bitty and it was tiny. Pretty cool.

If you go this route, look for the new factory suppressed gun. Aftermarket threading options for the 21a are expensive and tricky to do.

An upside is that the increased back pressure from the suppressor make the extractor-less Bobcat a little more reliable.

Bobcat/Beretta with the Oculus in short config would be on the list.

Or for a little more power, pick the smallest 9mm you can find and use a Gemtech Aurora II.

If this is a legit question because you're considering something let me know and Ill run downstairs and get pics of a potential option with length measurements.

my thought would be an integraly suppressed Ruger Mk series pistol. Curtis ahiggins at S&H used to make them. Basically it looks like a bull barrel Mk 2.

Absolute smallest might be the bobcat and GSL Pill Box. The GSL Pill Box is even smaller than the Bowers Bitty somehow. I guess it depends on what you mean by legitimate. Long firing schedule would put this one right out but if you want a modern liberator then it would be g2g.

Why not get a maxim? Yeah you can go with a little bobcat or jetfire or the like in 22, but the maxim is 9mm and not much bigger than a normal full sized 9mm. By the time you're talking a rugar mk2, or a 22a or the like you're in the same size dimension wise. Bigger caliber is always going to be useful, you can always shoot a squirrel with a moose gun but it's best never to try shooting a moose with a squirrel gun.

To be clear, I'm not planning my next NFA item. This is simply a curiosity.

And by legitimate, I mean a real firearm, designed to send rounds downrange, and a real suppressor, actually designed to suppress said rounds.

It looks like post #8 is giving me a pretty decent answer.

You have a desired or minimum caliber? Or maybe I should say for defense or just fun shooting?

I have a funny story about ninja throwing stars from when I was a kid…

Parents were selling their house and found probably 200+ holes in the wall across from my bed. I was using that wall as a backing for my paper targets…. Dad was pissed!!! He had to fix all the holes and repaint the room b/c he didn’t have any more paint to just do the one area.

incidentally, I liked the 6 point stars better that the 4 and the curved ones.

I don't see them on his website now but David Wilson does barrel chops for Ruger MK series.

You can usually get a MK 4 barrel/upper for $40 from Volquartsen.

Also, a Ruger MK 4 Tactical is quite short and threaded out of the box.

Pictured is a 2.1" barrel with a Bower Bitty and a 3.4" barrel for comparison.
Also shown with a TacSol Axiom.

A 2.1" barrel is sort of like gently requesting the bullet to go in a direction. But I can hit a reduced A-zone at 50 yards so it should do the trick for what you are looking for.

I remember seeing these DB380s and DB9s in literature when I worked at the gun store. The can uses a wipe and is stupid small. I really wanted the DB380 in this config but NFA isn't in my tolerance for Gubment BS.

Pistol or Carbine? You could get some pretty compact 9MM PCCs with a folding stock.

I have this exact can on a beretta bobcat. Nice little combo.

I have a ruger mkII cut to 2” but it’s back to normal size by the time I add a can. It’s not an integral, but it was inexpensive to build.

Man that is an odd looking pistol. Have you shot one? How does it handle?

Are you asking about the Maxim? Or one of the smaller pistols he mentioned?

Any experience with them?

I‘m guessing there is spring pressure to keep the piston threads engaged with the muzzle threads, but it looks like it could easily slide left/right and eventually come loose/off. Is it enough pressure,
Ike with a 3 lug? What am I missing?

There’s a lot of discussion on ARF about it, but I’ve never seen one in person. Everybody I’ve seen that’s used it seems to be very satisfied.
