Any one have any info on this pistol? I have one, but it does not say Model 422 on it looks like the ones I see on the net. The ones I see on Gunbroker is marked Model 422. But mine is not. I only found 5 for sale compared to pages of the Model 41.

this pistol shoots good and is fairly accurate. I was wondering why there wasn't many out there and why are they about a 1/4 of the sale price for the 41

thanks,

what's wrong with them? I've never held, much less shot a 41

I will not sale mine that cheap if it was even on the sale list.

The Model 41 is the Lambourghuini of .22 pistols; the 422 is the Ford Taurus.

That said, back in the day they made terrific suppressor hosts before everybody in the world started threading barrels. I've had 422/622 that shot very very well, but I'd much rather have a Ruger MK.... or an S&W Victory these days.

yeah that pistol was the first one I looked at, and then I held a 22-A then a Victory. I picked the 22-A because it's most like the model 41 without the pricetag.

I have a 622, it was the 1st pistol I bought for myself. Enjoyable to shoot & easy to maintain.

These guns are still around on the used market and have held their value well.
The shorter Barrel (3 inch) versions bring good money.
The low bore axis made them accurate shooters and perfect host for a suppressors since the barrel nut could be changed out for an adapter.
I bought one new the first year of production sometime in the 90s , and paid 250.00 for it.
Found out that the rearwards ejection port didn't lend itself to a left handed shooter so I sold it to a buddy who still owns it .
Smith had these in the catalog for nine or ten years in many variations.
There's one in a lgs now, the price is 500.00, double the price I paid 20 years ago

I have a longer barreled 422. Great suppressor host , and a nice gun

May I intrude a bit and ask if anyone has any experience with the Model 2206? This is the all stainless version of the M-422 & M-622. Personally I like the heavier pistol, the added weight helps with what recoil there is from a .22 LR round. I missed out when these were first produced and was not aware S&W had refined the original design of the Model 61, a little pocket .22 caliber pistol which was plagued with function problems that were apparently finally corrected with the M-61-3.
To the point, I believe these pistols were unappreciated, maybe slow sellers and expensive to produce, when I learned of their existence they had already been discontinued and their prices have continued to climb since. From reading the above posts it seems that they are not well known or liked on this forum so look around and find one of the several variations and give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.
