Need some schooling here.I haven’t had any experience with revolvers and have a chance to pick up a Smith&Wesson 686-1.I’ve saw several pop up over time and never really paid attention to details or selling price.Just wondering what is a fair price for the pistol as I’m looking to buy it

depending on condition I wouldn’t pay more than $500 to $650 but in today’s crazy market probably $750 and up. Do your due diligence before you buy
He’s doing his diligence. He moves a lot of guns between several forums and websites. He’s probably already bought it and trying to figure out what you guys will pay for it

I’ll give you fifty! 🤣

Thanks for being a stand up guy there.Members like you are what’s wrong with this place.Actually I don’t know what the gun is worth and no I haven’t bought it to try and move it as you say.Actually was interested in buying in to put back for my youngest son so maybe he’d have a collectors item one day.But hey if you can live with being you,I’m all for it.

Forum members, those with a paid status, have access to our Appraisals area. Otherwise, I suggest searching gonebroker or armslist for comps.
Thanks.I’ll look into that but after reading some of the commmets in this thread I’m not sure I’d pay to be a member here

You can always log off and not return if we don't live up to your standards.

You mean a member that's been here since day one, supports the site, contributes daily and volunteers his time to moderate the site. Yeah, he's gonna be the downfall of this place. Keep doing you dude.

And been one of “those” members since

Well I can’t argue with you there lol.You can go add and delete this thread since you’re a mod here.I can see it’s not going to help
What is the seller asking for it?

No, I don't want to deprive the other members of the entertainment of your posts. Besides, there are still a few openings on the pool for when you depart the forum.

I think it’s important to note that the “paid” status is secondary. What we regulars are getting fed up with is “members” who contribute nothing of substance outside the classifieds. We don’t want this place to a free version of Armslist; we’ve spent a long time building a community and get irritated when those with no skin in the game ($ or content) are obviously benefiting without contributing.

The best way to address this trend is probably not to harass and harangue them, for they are endless in number. if someone wants to respond to their questions, why be troubled about it?

To the OP. You have been a member here long enough to remember that there used to be a "What is this Worth" section of the forum. The problem was it was used all the time as a fishing hole. People would put something up and people would reply and if the OP got an answer they liked they would offer it for sale. That is not how the BTS here works so it was eliminated. It is now in a section for paid members only where people don't fish in the same manner.

Also it is known to people who pay attention you like to flip stuff. @gowilkes There is nothing wrong with that in my book. You can buy and sell whatever you want from willing sellers to willing buyers but if that is something you do people will call you out. As @Tim pointed out for many members here not just paying members this is a community that goes beyond buying and selling stuff. It goes beyond just taking about guns. It is not the place for everyone but it is what it is and for the most part it works.

That’s a more than fair take on the topic.

Also, while there’s nothing wrong with flipping, as many as some folks flip, the atf might frown on that. And while we don’t agree with the atf at all, we have a forum to think about and the negative attention it could bring us by folks doing the amount of flipping that some do.

Totally agree with you sir.I do buy and flip but I also buy a lot to keep.It should make no difference as long as the seller gets his asking price as to what the buyer does with it after that.I’ve had people buy from me and tell me is bought to flip.I could care less as long as I got the price I wanted. There’s alot of good people on this and other forums but there are some that just like to bash threads and other users.I’ve seen new members ask questions and get made fun of in the threads for asking a simple question.Makes no sense

I agree to an extent but if we allow how much is it worth threads in the regular sections how is that any different than having an appraisal section in the BST. I know who to ask via PM what something is worth. I do my own research and then consult with others who know more. When people ask me about the few things I know about via PM I am happy to answer and help someone out. Stuff like this out in the general forum just becomes fishing. IMHO

These days I just ignore them when they come up or if I know and like the member I reach out via PM.

Prove it. Provide links to back up that assertion. I'm talking about simple firearms related questions. If someone is trolling or support gun control (like a few of the newbies) that's a non-starter and they deserve ridicule for supporting gun control on a gun forum.

If the level of discourse is something you have an issue with, why haven't you done anything but buy and sell here? Why haven't you been the one to answer the questions that new members have? Why haven't you been helpful to others?

You're just upset that we wouldn't be a sounding board to aid you with your gun flipping for profit. That's a breathtaking sense of entitlement.

The powers that be decided that allowing appraisals on the public side of the forum wasn’t conducive to their objectives. Since new people don’t know that history they ask, and since some older folks really just want an answer, they ask, then lots of cleanup. Maybe better to make a simple rule and just delete the things. Maybe make an appraisals section on the public side, put a sticky in it that says, no appraisals for non-paying members (quick tangent, can we call them guests?) and then not allow any threads to be started in it.

I’m all about the low drama solution.

You got called out for flipping guns which irks some people. Possibly grabbed some attention from legal authorities that you're buying and selling. Hope that doesn't come back to bite you.

And then you used the inquiry as oh no, its an heirloom purchase.

And then...Said the attitudes here suck, not worth being a member.

Man up and quit being a little b*tch about it.

To be honest both these post are pretty good examples of that you are asking for as proof. It is not the content but the tone. It is confrontational and maybe unnecessary. If I were a new member here I would be confused. LOL I don't have a dog in this fight but I don't think that the OP is trying to be a jerk or violate the forum rules he just uses the forum for different reasons than others and as long as he is not breaking any rules or laws I don't see a problem. He has apologized and moved on what more do people want?

I specifically recall a moderator saying that there is no rule against asking for an appraisal in the public area. This was just after the public appraisal section was moved.

He must take the walk of atonement.

Does that mod where the sash proudly? LOL

Which would make me wonder why the classifieds are visible to anonymous non member visitors and the threads can't be deleted. The "regulars" get a bug up their butts over people who ask about permits and paperwork yet we have our own mini tracing registry here for the ATF that is also open to the public.

You make a fair point.

There are other reasons why I might be a bit more defensive than necessary for the sake of the forum and unwanted attention. My personal views and forum liability and so forth can sometimes be at odds, so to speak.

I completely understand that position.

I also recall a mod (or owner maybe) saying they took no issue with those that were only here to buy and sell as long as the rules were followed. Paid member or not.

Opinions probably vary depending on who you ask.

I'm just a mod, not a site owner. It is up to the site owners to decide what sort of forum they want this to be. Do we want to become another Armslist or not? I would say maybe "no" to that one.

Folks.

Flipping guns for profit, without having an FFL is bad juju. It's not something that we as a forum can abide. With that, the OP is no longer with us. Constitutionality of said laws aside we have to protect the forum.

RR.
