Snowmageddon December 8th, 9th, 10th 2018

@HMP we got 13” on this side of new 52 right now. Still coming down. Has moments of sleet mixed with it too.

Ive not even stepped outside yet.
I might go shovel some in a while, as it seems to have stopped now.

Main Street Stokesdale.

They’ve plowed the road twice and there’s still a good 2-3 inches of compacted snow on them. We’re over 10 inches in most places. Drifts are higher.

Will this much snow affect your business at all? I mean, Im sure builders wont be out tomorrow, but didnt know if everything else would run the same

Oh we won’t run at all tomorrow. Most likely won’t run Tuesday either and if we’re able to run Wednesday it’ll be a late start.

These trucks have zero traction in snow and ice. Not worth the risk.

Are you driving that CJ around any? :)

A few years ago, we had a pretty decent December snow..nothing like this one, though. If I remember right, it was around 3-4".

Anyhoo, I was getting ready to head to the station and my wife was in the process of getting ready for work. The closings/delays were scrolling across the bottom of the tv and she asked if I'd watch it to see if her workplace was closed.

Well, I saw where it was and told her, "Yeah; yall are closed." Just for sh*ts and giggles, I said, "Would ya look at that...reckon I'm off today, too..fire department's closed." She stuck her head out the bathroom door and said, "Really?!!!"

I rolled my eyes and in the most sarcastic tone I could muster said, "Yeah...the fire department is shutting down for the day."

She thought about it for a split-second, glared at me and through gritted teeth said, "You asshole!"

God, I laughed so hard about that and still do.

I went out to Lewisville this morning to give a friend a ride to the Hospital (work). I have driven in snow for many years now, especially in Boone during my time there. Today was some of the most sketchy conditions I've driven in. I got on 40 and I'm pretty sure a plow hadn't touched it as of 10:30 or so. Be safe.

Well for what its worth on north side of muddy creek on Peace Haven I measured an honest 14" away from a drift. Had a drift at the back beside the house right at 24". I'm too old for this shit. I've had a lot of "You Asshole" today also.

really? I would think with that much weight that it wouldnt be that bad...but then again, I know how they are in mud and it's probably as bad in snow.

Woke this morning to a bunch of pictures my wife sent off the show.
14+ in kernersville.
And then she had to tease me with a picture of homemade clam chowdah.

our 11" got beat down by the sleet and rain.
stands at 4, now. that will be 4 of ice tomorrow.

We ended up with about 4” of icy mix in Huntersville/Davidson.

Made a command decision to wussy out tomorrow. Getting too old to let some dumb ass run into me. Went and cleaned off the old Suburban and she looked at me like I was crazy. She's a hoss in the snow but Peace Haven isn't plowed and they've got the damn shoulders so screwed up if you miss the road you're in the ditch. 8 months, 22 days and a wake up and hopefully this is my last winter to officially work.

Got these guys scraping the driveway.

Went hunting for a bit. Chased a pair of does around. Crossed their track before I got in the woods. Saw them just into the woods but never got a clear shot. They doubled back into the thicket which put me hunting towards some houses so I backed out and left. Fun time though.

We've had several rookies over the last few years not report for work since the city offices are closed lol

So apparently this is the third largest snowfall in NC history so far. They’re calling this 12 inches so far. I don’t think we’ll pass the 20 inch mark of number one but the number two is 14 inches.

Final tally here in Clemmons...

View attachment 90688

Lucky 13. With the wind, had some drifts 2x that.
I'm going to adopt your measurement as the official total for Clemmons, since I'm not going outside to measure for myself. Now the question becomes, how long will it take for somebody to scrape our street? The DOT put a very prominent " state maintenance ends" sign a block above our cul-de-sac earlier in the year.

Well @Burt Gummer never showed ,:D so I spent a couple hours on my 8n scraping
my drive, and my elderly neighbors drive out to the road. It was slush under the snow.

Drive in wasn't bad, back roads we're rutted. 52 was 45-55mph. Got some boring video, probably won't post, too much effort. Definitely not from work

I believe we had about 12 inches in Davie co. It could have been more ,but measured after the rain/sleet came and it looked packed.

RJR is closed tomorrow. The world has just come to an end. This is the second time in two years. Free day off for us contractors.................

We got power back about 40 mins ago. Broke down camp RR, put generator away, etc.

Spent the afternoon on a rather harrowing drive from my place to Mebane to help get the neighbors to a hotel. He's elderly and on oxygen and they had to get someplace warm and with power. Loaded them and their gear up in my Suburban and headed out. Roads were pretty bad. I had 4 wheels spinning more than once and there were a bunch of people in the ditch.

About 10-11” here before ice came. Dad had large equipment shed fall from the weight luckly no damage to anything in it

Also got a nice surprise of dead truck batteries so guess ill get to go buy two of those tommorrow.

I just went out to attempt to help my neighbor, he got stuck coming back home from picking up his fiance. Dropped a wheel off the shoulder of the road into his yard and it was downhill, literally, from there.
I aint got much to help with, but took a shovel hoping it'd do something.

I got winded walking down my driveway...and it aint that big.
I got to get out and see a doctor tomorrow, something is wrong.
This sucks.

Also, cool to see so many of us here in the Midway area (zb, bow, firemedic)

Took the Subaru out for a bit. Roads were pretty bad but luckily didn't hurt anything except maybe the pride of the guy driving the jeep as I passed him going uphill. I thought jeeps would be better then that in snow but he was all over the place. Saw a ton of cars stuck and even a DOT salt/plow truck in a ditch.

If it had wide mud tires... He might as well of rubbed grease on them. They don't work on packed snow/ice. Deep fresh snow , yes.
A thinner tire with lots of siping is the way to go on packed.

That explains it then. Tires were wide. He actually pulled over a little cause he knew I wanted to get by. I think I could of jogged up the hill faster then he was gonna make it.
