Curiosity got the better of me and I ended up ordering one of these to try out

What you see is what you get other then two roll pins that are also hidden in the package.

Here it is in all it's expensive glory. It's nicely finished in black oxide. Feels well made but the click adjustments almost feel like a really violent slap could move them. Carries a life time warranty, so if it does fail to meet expectations, I'm contacting KNS. But we'll see.

Really, one of the main reasons I bit and ordered one was that a recently acquired rifle had some crappy Century welds on the gas piston (on one side only) that didn't even hold the piston in place, so I was able to unscrew and remove it without difficulty.

Here's the do-nothing weld on the other side.

It seems like the threads are slightly finer than the original gas piston, so it took a lot of back forth motion, almost like you would when threading with a tap to sort of mate the threads. Once I finally got it worn in though, it spins pretty easily. Here's a pic of the one of the roll pins holding it in place. There's a second, extra pin that comes with the piston which could either be used here or near the piston head, where another roll pin is in place holding on the adjustable regulator.

Here it is installed next to the old piston. Exact same length.

I hope to test this out in the next couple weeks. AK's are over-gassed by design- it's part of what makes them reliable, but I'd like to see what 7.62x39 recoil (which is not bad to begin with) becomes when you bleed it down to just enough gas to cycle the action. I don't have a can, which seems to be the main use for these, but oh well. I think quality innovation is good. Everyone and their momma is making plastic furniture, but it's nice to see someone make a product that's easy to use and has a definite purpose.

Nice initial write up. Looks well made. Yowza those things aren't cheap! Keep us posted after you get a chance to dial it in.

My only adjustable gas AK is an M90NP. Although it took a bit of troubleshooting and patience at the get-go, it's reliable now regardless of what I feed it and I like having the ability to tweak as needed.

I kept passing them up because of the price, but when I saw a 15% off coupon code come along, I figured I'd give one a shot.

So, I'm thinking this thing is worth the price of admission. It's amazing being able to watch the "brass" plop down in a pile in front of me. It does also reduce recoil noticeably. I tried my wire folder with the normal piston and then dropped the carrier with the KNS piston in it and it was night and day.
