So I find myself in need of a holster

@chiefjason is making a leather version for @BigWaylon and a few others.

That might have fallen apart. With a normal Maxim, I could pull off a pancake pretty easy. With that RMR, it's a multi day process which is a no go with NFA stuff. There are leather options to pull that off, but I have to have the gun for several days or a week to pattern and get it started. NFA really screws this up.

As Jason mentioned above, I was going that route until I decided to try an RMR. I'm going to use the CQC holster you and I ordered this week, and trim it a bit to allow for the RMR to fit.

If I end up ditching it, I'll probably get back in contact with Chief and have one made.

Thank you, never seen one before
Several of us have bought them in the last couple weeks. There were some ridiculous deals on them, and you got another free pistol or rimfire can from SiCo when you bought one.

When I say ridiculous, I mean in the $800-$850 range, then they were usually priced $1199-$1299.

I humbly recommend Steve's Custom Kydex. He can make most anything but you'd have to coordinate it so that you can take it to him and be there when he makes it. Due to it being an NFA item and I doubt he has a blank.

THIS. I own two of Steves holsters. A competition style holster, and an IWB holster.
I have went through many holsters and these two have been by far the best!

Personally, I wouldn't use anything but kydex on that particular gun.

Making a drone is not terribly complicated. Kinda spendy resin.

Not too complicated but have you even made one? I have. And nearly ruined a gun doing it. That silicone you use for the mold is thin enough to get everywhere, including in every crack in the gun. lol Oh, and the results were less than spectacular. It also cost more than the commercial molds out there. If I think I can manage it, it's easier to just buy a gun to use. My guess is one of the smaller makers would jump on this if it was not for the NFA and price point.

Thin Polystyrene and crummy home made shop vac powered vac table, mine's not large enough for this project. There' a video out there somewhere. Haven't poured them yet cause I'm lazy, have three shells waiting.

I was considering that route after the disaster of pouring a mold didn’t pan out. I’d be curious about getting the specs right though. I know with kydex you never get a straight wall. Thinner stuff should get you closer, just wondering how close?

And like I have time for one more time consuming venture. Lol. But I do already have the vacuum table.

Another option and great member/holster maker is @rantingredneck.

Always forget him for gun holster because I always associate him with knives and sheaths, lol.

But he makes excellent gun holsters as well as knife sheaths. He fixed a couple crappy RHT holsters for me. Maybe he could do it.

I'd be willing to take a crack at it. But you'd have to come with the gun and wait while I do it. Double layer kydex taco on a teklok or bladetech paddle shouldn't be too hard to pull off. Won't be subtle, and won't be a CCW rig LOL.

Another vote for @rantingredneck . He made me an IWB, OWB, and a mag carrier for my Glock 43 this past weekend. I couldn’t be more tickled with how they turned out. Carried a friend of mines guns down to him on Monday and dropped them off for him to make a couple for her. Anyway. Pics...

I love the quick clips on the OWB holster. They’re awesome. Thanks again RR

How long would the wait be? You talking an hour? 4 hours? All day?

How does kydex handle heat? I assume we'd have to let the gun cool down most of the way before reinserting it?

Here’s pics of RR’s kydex and CJ’s leather work.

I'll know more after Sunday when I make my first one for this gun. But probably 2ish hours.

Kydex, when heated, will deform. Would depend on how hot the gun gets, but yeah, probably....

Will this mean you can make a second one without a gun?

Considering this thread, you might want to consider knocking a couple out if you have time. If I could get my hands on it, and get something I was happy with, I'd probably make a few of them.

You could charge double for not having to bring the gun to you. :D

That means mines half price right?:D

Will greatly depend on how long the first one takes and how much patience and time Lee has Sunday LOL.

This is how it turned out.

Took right at 2 hours and 45 mins from the time the OP arrived until he left. It will take less time for subsequent holsters because I had to build some specialty blocking for this that I marked and retained for later.

Because it took 2:45 today I was not able to get a second one made, but any of the rest of you that want one will save a little time over Lee's trip because of the knowledge and prep materials gained today.

Double layer, dual solid color, with a bladetech paddle will run you 80.00. with a Teklok it's 70. With both, 90.

Since that's not as flexible as leather, will it hold the Maxim in the short config as well? Or because the indentions would be different it wouldn't be as secure?

Looks great. Will need to go look up Teklok to know what you're talking about. :D
