Not sure what milled AK variant to go after. Maybe Arsenal or is IWI Galil Ace worth the extra money?

What caliber? There are a few Arsenal 7.62x39 SAMs in our classifieds right now.

ACE is worth the extra money IMO, but I'm a biased owner. They are wonderful. You won't find a more overbuilt AK variant anywhere.

Have you ever ordered from KVAR? If so, this just hit the market several hours ago and is still in stock: https://www.k-var.com/arsenal-sam5-556x45-ak47-side-rail

Definitely looking for 762x39. Ive never ordered a gun from anywhere lol. But I may have to in order to get the galil.

I’ve had both the 7.62 Galil and the 556. Me personally I liked the 556 beater. Look for a milled Mak or a SLR-95. All new Arsenal are overpriced.

Now, NOW, they bring back the SAM5.... classic Arsenal.

Personally if it was me, the Sam7, the ACE, Whichever is great.

If your looking for a milled rifle in 7.62x39, of the current choices, either of those would have to be it.

The SAM7sf is basically a Bulgarian ARM-9 minus the giggle switch, and the Galil ACE is well, a semi auto only ACE.

Both are (essentially) current issue, military quality rifles...
Warts and all.

Get a VZ-58. I mean technically, when the USSR forced all it's client states to adopt 7.62x39 and AK's, the VZ was Czech's FU to their overlords. Technically a variant in function if not form, and milled. :p

All good choices in here and plenty to get you started down a rabbit hole of research. Nothing is perfect and preferences are subjective, so I'd suggest watching some YouTube videos, reading through the "Kommie" subforum here and lurking over at the AK Files - weigh the pros and cons of each (VZ58 uses proprietary mags, for example; cosmetic shortcomings of the ACE, ban-era features on the SLR-95, etc.) and figure out what speaks to you. If possible, try to get your hands on a physical example of anything mentioned so far, either through a buddy or a local gun shop (admittedly a tough feat more than likely, given the current climate).

A lot of us here currently own or have owned all of the guns mentioned so far, so feel free to ask questions.

And whatever the hell you do, just stay away from the C39 and C39V2.

I’m not an ak afficionado like some here, but I can speak to my SAM7SF. First one was a dud with an ejector that was too short. Arsenal CS pretty much sucks but they did replace the rifle and I had to eat shipping. This one works flawlessly.

I like the rifle but it isn’t perfect. It’s heavy and the side folder stock on the SF has a long LOP. I had a stamped SLR107 that I sold and In retrospect, maybe I sold the wrong rifle.

It is very cool though. I got into shooting at the beginning of the 94 AWB and the SAM7SF folded up, with a threaded brake, 30rd mag in place, and bayonet mounted just puts a stupid smile on my face.

Cough cough...c39v2...cough....

I have one 10inch pistol, that has only 300 rounds though it (and I know some people turn up their nose at the c39v2) but it’s been a solid shooter and the one and only one time it gave me trouble was the mags fault....

I picked up 3 circle 10s from charlie coopers for 44 each shipped. Have not heard about the AC unitys, will have to look into them. I had 6 or 8 of the ((10))s i let go with a 106 earlier this year and was content to get out of Bulgrian 556- but I have aways wanted a SAM5 so now i have to buyback mags :(
Sorry to derail OP, get you one of the milled varients listed above and you cant go wrong

Also from what I understand the milled SAM doesnt have the selector stop related feeding issues that plagues some stamped 106s.

@Case Mouth have you ordered from KVAR before? I asked OP the same question, because Cliff from KVAR said they were "reserving" these SAM5 guns for previous KVAR customers, and would review orders for that caveat before fulfilling them.

Seems pretty lame and I'm not sure how/if they enforce it, but just something for folks to be aware of.

Yes, I think I ordered a couple saiga 12 russian 8 rounders a couple years ago and I was registered. Guy on the files said he had to create an account but then it let him order (but the fine print says they will be reviewing orders so who knows).
I know they must have a pretty good mount of them to not be sold out since Thursday.

Glad to hear it, and fingers crossed you get yours. Technically, someone could create an account, buy a stock screw, and then place a second order for the SAM.

The whole "existing customers only" thing reeks of shady marketing, which KVAR is certainly known for.

I'd also hate to be the poor bastard who could have bought two for the price he paid KVAR for one just a few days ago...

Yeah, but arnt they like $35? for just $10 more you can have the gold standard.
Well. Yes.... but the fact is that both the Circle 10's AND the Polish ones are well established, and in military use.

Who is going to argue with multiple good choices? :)
