Someday, I'll give this to my son.

So said my 8 year old to his grandpa last week. If you want to see a grown man tear up, that did it for me.

Dad was ready to pass on the rifles he built for my boys this week. I was able to capture the 2nd on camera, and am incredibly happy I did. Sorry for the camera work. Right after the video ends, little Eric looks up at his Grandpa Eric and says, "Someday I'll give this to my son." Perfect.

On the left, Eric's rifle and on the right is another dad made that I brought home.

And Ian's. This one is less ornate, but that's purposeful. It's patterned after a typical "Gillespie" rifle. The Gillespie gun makers were from our area of WNC back in the early-mid 1800's.

Happy kids...

If you have the video on your phone, save it now. That will be incredible when he does pass it on.

Wow, good stuff Tim. You done good raising a little one that already thinks like that. Too bad he shoots off of the wrong shoulder, but then I guess nobody is perfect.

Love it.

Beautiful piece, but I am so used to being treated like a lefty, that if it didn't go off right in front of my face, I am not sure I would know how to act. Now that I have a left handed son, it is OK to buy left handed rifles and shotguns. But they aren't for me, just ask my wife, she will tell you.

I'm a lefty...only one of the grand kids on dad's side! Grandpa was a lefty, so have a handful of great pieces from him. And when dad started building muzzleloaders, he hurt his shoulder and started shooting off the left shoulder. Basically, I win.

How long has your father been building them? I mean that is some very nice work and some nice relief work on the stock.

About 20 years or more. That left handed .32 I posted was his first build and has some very nice detail work. Others he builds are much more utilitarian. They range from that .32 squirrel gun to 35# "chunk guns". He has a .62 Jaeger that is simply incredible. All done with limited power tools.

Those are beautiful guns.
Your dad is a very talented gentleman.

Does he sell any? I'd love to get in line for one if so.

Yes ! Beautiful !
It speaks to how you have raised them to have thoughts like that. Well done.

I see I need a couple of those for myself to pass down as well.
I've not shot a BP anything yet... Need to fix that.

I just teared up...I'll get a tissue and finish reading the other posts in a few minutes. That touched my heart in the goody place.

As someone has already stated, save that video on several media types. I would give my left arm to have a video of my grandparents. I do have some items like a pocket knife.

That video will be.priceless one day

He does....in fact the shorter one in the first pic he had tagged for sale. I went ahead and bought it from him to help, fund another project he's working on.
