Sooo who would bet????

The way I read the OP I’d just need to show up with a 1911 and 300 rounds, then shoot the 300 rounds without a stoppage. Never says that I have to shoot them in the 1911...

I feel very confident about making 300 with a 9mm 1911, I routinely shoot 250 with it. I have 2 1911’s in the correct caliber, but one is very new and the other I’m nursing back to health after dremel dan worked it over, so not as confident.

Suppose I could take them to the range next week and give it a try.
I'm going to give mine a try at the range Friday or at Billy's on Sunday....or both. Should be interesting.

How many 1911 lovers amongst us would be willing to bet oh say...$1,000. The bet would be for you to show up with 300 rounds of ammo of your choice and the 1911 of your choice. Then proceed to shoot the 300 rounds without a SINGLE malfunction of any kind. No...failure to load, fire, extract, eject, or lock the slide back. Absolutely no alibis. Just curious who would be willing to do this???
The only person I know who’s capable of firing 300 rounds of anything, thru any gun, in a single session is @Millie. ;)

While I love 1911s and my New Agent hasn't had a single hiccup with somewhere around 600 rounds last I counted, I know my luck well enough to not take this bet. Hell, even if I won the bet, I would be hit by a flaming toilet seat from a deorbiting space station or something within 15 minutes.

Anybody want to bring their Glock and see if they can get more than 2 folks to compliment it as a good looking sidearm?

Hmmmmm...

A 300 round practice session....
AND get paid....

Im in....

Don't have the money to bet, but pretty sure my DW Pointman-7 would have no problem with it. My old CBOB went over 2500 rds without cleaning or a malfunction. I kept hearing how stainless 1911s wouldn't run- too tight, galling, gottarunemwet, blah blah blah & wanted to see for myself. Gun was so filthy (lots of hardball powered by 231 through it) that I felt bad & cleaned it before it ever bobbled.

Maybe the bigger issue is how true the gun is to JMB's original design? Every tiny little detail of the gun was designed that way for a reason & changing anything without understanding the why, yer lookin' for trouble.

An old GI model would probably be the best way to win that bet but I have a 9mm stainless SA Loaded that is rock solid. Tripp magazines. Competed with it for 6 years before I got my 2011. I would probably use factory ammo instead of my reloads with money on the line. Quite a trek down there, but it sounds worth it - even without the $1000 incentive :)

When are you thinking?

All great things happen here in October. Come see us!

Well shooters, this has about played out to it's expected end. I really appreciate all playing along. I have asked Many LEs this same thing about their duty sidearm and have never had any of them take me up on it. The whole idea is Do yo really trust your choice of defense? Seems like there were a few, that's a good thing. It also seems like there were Quite a few knowledgeable shooters that know the foiables attached to an exercise like this. I'd still hope all who were willing would come in October. We'll have a test with money attached, just like last year and a Dedicated Wizard Target that I can't wait for all to see.
@Millie and @Button Pusher , I'll see ya'll Sunday!!! Bring those 1911s.

I trust mine enough that it is my EDC for the gun I would be shooting my RIA ultra 45 with select mags and my reloaded FMJ ball ammo loaded on my single stage press (not my progressive) my biggest fear would be a Magazine failure causing failure to lock open. I could not do 50 rounds with my Sig p229 not because of anything wrong with the P229 but becauese I would put my thumb on top of the slide release and cause the failure to lock open (same place as my 1911 thumb safety)

I would say if 10 people made the bet it would be a break even. I would not take that bet on my former Kimber. I have certainly done it to 500 rounds in two trips on my 1911 Dan Wesson 9mm with MEN German made ammo. I wouldn’t take that bet on any ammo made in the USA with a 1911.

Honestly a 1911 would be my last choice of all my guns as a the weapon in the field without being able to clean it.

I would not take this bet with my Glock nor a 1911. Sure, I think my Glock would run 300 rounds and probably many more. But, there are too many variables that could affect the outcome, weak round, part failure, ammo out of spec. All we can do is get familiar with our gun and gain confidence that it will work when we need it. But, it is a machine made by man and Murphy is looking over your shoulder.

This has 8024 rounds thru it. Had some failures around 3000 rounds due to a loose/poorly fitted extractor.

Since I profiled the extractor it hasn’t had any failures and has gone multiple 1k round sessions with no cleaning, only adding oil.

Use my own reloads (LRN/LSWC), gold dots, hst, and Ed brown mags/Wilson etm mags.

Every 1911 I own has gone 1k rounds with no cleaning or malfunctions. It takes good extractor setup and good mags.

I hope all the big talkers show up in October

But if history is any teacher there will be a plethora of emergencies that day. Unavoidably detainees. So sorry I missed it I would have won a thousand bucks off of ya.

FWIW I don’t have any pistol or rifle that I would take this bet with. I’m not rich and there are too many variables. Reminds me of the scene in “Four Rooms” where the guy bets his finger that his zippo will light 10 times in a row. First strike it misses. Dude gets his finger chopped off.

I'll see you soon.

The gun I trust for my defense is the G19. Though I love my 1911s, I'm not sure I can trust them to work every time, and thru many rounds.....it's a sad thing to say.

I'll have mine on me, let's see what happens.

Im with you on this. If the challenge was "Do you trust your >carry< pistol to bet $$ on 300 rounds" then I could see this being a bit more acceptable to most people. I don't have that kind of money to toss on a bet, but I do trust my EDC to easily run 300 with no issues. Otherwise I wouldn't carry it. I shoot about that when I take it to the range to practice. Not blustering or bragging, but I also know that Murphy is a fickle man and will show up just when least expected.

If this was really intended as a test of suitability for carry it would involve putting it under the car seat for a month or running it through the dryer with towels for an hour and then firing 2 mags without a stoppage, clean and repeat 25 times. Maybe you guys carry 300 rounds every day, but that’s a bit much for me.

Still an interesting thing to try. BTW, I have revolvers that would never make 300 rounds.
