Sooo who would bet????

$1000 is a significant amount of money. That's the point. It's not about rolling the dice over $50, it is about forcing you to evaluate your level of confidence. I wouldn't take the bet. One, I'd currently need to sub out shooting 300 rounds because I'm still getting shots in my wrist. Two, my confidence in my EDC is based on my anticipated carry scenario, which involves about 30 rounds (what I routinely carry on my person). I keep my EDC clean and loaded with quality ammo, but heat and gunk in the mechanicals building up over 300 rounds is more than I prepare for.

Now if the bet is on your everyday carry how many would jump on that bet.
See Dale, That is always my "hope". Carry guns interest me. I own Many 1911s, I have carried them for years, Not Any More. I found more suitable platforms for me. I can go down on the range and breeze through The Wizard with a 5 inch Anything. Doesn't mean a thing...I don't carry them. It is truly amazing to me how muddy the waters become when you use a 3 inch gun that weighs 20 ounces.
This year for the money shoot we will be shooting from concealment. That means you come to the line, hold your hands up above your head and turn 360 degrees. If I see Nothing, have a seat, we're ready to go!
As a side note, the $169 SCCY went 1,200+ without cleaning or a malfunction. It was the second one to do that..just saying.

Right on all points.

SCCY???....had to look that one up, I thought it was an abbreviation for a certain type of carry, not a pistol. I guess that's why I stick with revolvers, not so many makes to keep up with.

I'll take that bet.

I don't remember when I last had any sort of failure to function, but it's been many years and many tens of thousands of rounds ago.

See, the thing is...the 1911 pistol was designed to function. If it's correctly built to spec and fed decent ammunition from a proper magazine, it WILL function. It's a machine. It doesn't have a choice.

But, you'll have to come to me. Traveling more than about an hour away is out.

Now we're getting to the SECOND issue, operator headspace. So many malfunctions are shooter induced!
When I got used to shooting my 1911 9mm, I did ~300 rounds in a range session and felt great! Of course, that was way before it started having its problems, but it was perfect for those forst 800-1,000 rounds! LOL. Should have done the bet then!

Well shooters, this has about played out to it's expected end. I really appreciate all playing along. I have asked Many LEs this same thing about their duty sidearm and have never had any of them take me up on it. The whole idea is Do yo really trust your choice of defense? Seems like there were a few, that's a good thing. It also seems like there were Quite a few knowledgeable shooters that know the foiables attached to an exercise like this. I'd still hope all who were willing would come in October. We'll have a test with money attached, just like last year and a Dedicated Wizard Target that I can't wait for all to see.
@Millie and @Button Pusher , I'll see ya'll Sunday!!! Bring those 1911s.
What time y'all getting together sunday?

I can’t make it in October, and I’m opposed to betting in general, but now you got me thinking I should take my pet 1911 out for a 300 round challenge and report the results back here. I’m not opposed to learning and eating a bit of humble pie when necessary.

Adding...I once had a nicely refinished Remington Rand. All WW2 stock parts, but got a new park job in recent memory. A friend of mine and I ran a police range plate course with it using mixed WW2 GI ammo that had been surplussed by the Russians. Old lend lease stuff they just dumped in bulk containers. There were at least 8 headstamps in that lot.

We each ran the course multiple times with the GI ammo and also with Winchester white box. We had numerous stoppages with the white box. The gun ran flawlessly with the WW2 ammo. We also noticed the recoil with the WW2 ammo was much snappier than with the white box. The gun was a lot more accurate with the WW2 ammo, too.

I think we ran 500-6oo rounds of the WW2 ammo through the gun that day. I later sold that gun, which is one of the few I wish I had back. Still have a lot of the WW2 ammo. Mayhaps I should try to find it for the 300 round test.

Winchester white box
Bad JuJu….

I once got hold of a Colt from 1917. It was owned by a WWI Cavalry Officer. It was in it's original holster and had it's original two toned mag. Inside Mr. Mag was 6 rounds of ammo stamped 1917. You know I did!!!! Ran through it like crap through a goose. This happened about 1967 or abouts.

I'll take that bet....

How about I take that bet on your behalf, using my 1911 that you beat on with a hammer?
I'll brang ya half of the winnings.

I’ll beat on your 1911 with a hammer and only ask 1/3 of your winnings. :D

I'd take that bet with my 1945 Ithaca 1911A1. Just not sure I've got the 1K sitting around, just in case of course, haha.

How many 1911 lovers amongst us would be willing to bet oh say...$1,000. The bet would be for you to show up with 300 rounds of ammo of your choice and the 1911 of your choice. Then proceed to shoot the 300 rounds without a SINGLE malfunction of any kind. No...failure to load, fire, extract, eject, or lock the slide back. Absolutely no alibis. Just curious who would be willing to do this???

You are SO LUCKY that they've cut me off overtime because I don't take bets I'm not d*mn sure I'm going to win...and this one would be CAKE!

The pistol of choice for me would be my full sized Colt 1991A1, unmodified in any way (except for the paint I put on the front and rear sights for visibility), with the factory issued magazines. I've had it new from 1991, when they first came out.

My ammo of choice? Winchester White Box, 230 gr. jacketed round nose.

:D:D:D
