I've been reading up on VS acquisitions. Seems they've been doing this for years. And they buy every kind of forum imaginable. They're being called "The Borg" because they've bought so many over the years. Based on what I've seen 95-99% of the forums they buy turn to shit within months.

A listing of forums, sale prices, post counts, and members (posted by former disgruntled forum owners back in 2008) shows the sale price is directly related to total posts. CSC was at just over 2 million posts (before SB went nuts with his delete key) and I estimate the figure was over $150k, plus Ed should be getting a monthly "Admin fee" of $1-2k.

It's all about members and posts now, that's how VS will sell advertising. This is why they won't honor any requests to be deleted, it would cost them a member plus all of your posts. It makes for better numbers to just ban you and have your content and membership still on the books.

What you'll start seeing now is a bunch of LPBs (low post bastards - or shill accounts) making up the bulk of the posts. Check in at 3am one day next week and see just how many people are logged on. From this point forward it's all about fluffing the numbers. You'll also start to see a lot of off-topic posts by the minions to generate rabid debates and lots of posts (ford vs.chevy, 9mm vs..45, "help my back hurts", ad nauseam).

I'm still at ncgo and will be till or if it goes to the crapper.
I've been on bicycling forums where they were sold out and they went to crap in a hurry.
A lot of members at ncgo think it's going to be fine, and we shall see, but I've seen it happen to other forums and the evidence is there...

Even if he bans you, it has no effect on your prior posts. The only effect of a ban is you cannot log in.

With most of the regulars already here, to the infrequent members over there who don't know the backstory (much of which has been deleted) or don't care about forum politics, we just look like pricks insulting sore and neo.

[Not that I haven't laughed at some of your posts over there in the last couple of days.]

I got my signature privileges taken a way. My sig said "Screw Carolina shooter club. Come over to dark side @ Carolina Firearm forums, we have cookies."

So now the title above my name reads the address to here. Wonder how long it will stay up. Sig lasted 28 hours.

The mass exodus from CSC is a prime example.
Editing threads and posts so that certain comments aren't made...now that one, I only read about for CSC, but I saw it happen at bike forums.net, where I was a member and left after they sold out to some larger company.

People were permanently banned for nothing, threads deleted or edited.

I didn't really participate at CSC, just didn't get the vibe I needed at the time, hence my tenure at NCGO.

NCGO members seem to not be as concerned, we have a super good Mod over there (Gunny G) and BS and so forth isn't getting by him.
I think you should now that....

It's all good.
So far, seems like the CFF is a good place. :)
 
I logged out last week and deleted the CSC link in my favorites. Not worried about it any more.

Now I just aspire to be the post whore that BurnedOutGeek already is. I'm off work the next two days. Gotta stay focused...
 
I've been a member of my (original) home state forum for years. It's always been local and always will be, and I am still an active member there. That said, I look for a local forum....and I expect it to be local. I am a member of good standing at NCGO because of a few good folks there I have been fortunate to get to know in real life. The way things were handled at CSC was ridiculous and a lot of people got the short end of the stick. I never posted there much, but I can tell you this....I will never post there again. The way they are handling the sell out and the concerns of the members is careless, thoughtless and incredibly devoid of any class.

I am glad to be here. I mean that. I hope I can spread some of my knowledge to you all, get some from you, and have a great time here.

He is just trying to be open minded. He's here now, just keeping a low profile. Since he hasn't been with us since the start of CSC he doesn't feel the same kind of attachment a lot of us do.

I guess this is old news but I was just there moving a couple of items I have for sale to the BST here and noticed I can no longer edit my posts. I'm guessing that was done to everyone or am I special?

The only stickers I have on the Boss aside from an NC State Alumni sticker are two CSC stickers, one on each of the side windows. They'll be gone before the car hits the street again. I've got 5 of the new "states" stickers coming from Daryl.

You know I never did get an answer as to why it was never discussed with the members before the sell was even thought of being done. I was told that once the sell was being talked about that the lawyers said anything discussed couldn't be mentioned, but that was after the sell was being talked about with the buyers. Still don't understand why the group itself was never even told about a possible sell until after it was sold.
