An SBR.

Seriously. Every time I have too many "spare parts" they magically become a complete gun and I no longer have spare parts. It's happened three times already! Learned my lesson... no more spare parts for me.

When you say "spare parts kit", are you talking portable, often carried, or "in stock at home"?

Ha! I always bring a spare rifle to matches. I figure the easiest way to 'carry' spare parts is preassembled.

springs....springs...and detents......they seem to go flying across the room plus the other parts kit posted. small metal can like posted above or some of those, Plano parts containers (plastic) that have dividers that you can remove. I managed to get a bunch of Klein "metal" parts containers years ago and that's what I keep all my spare parts in on the bench.

some punches just in case

As far as location ... search on "ar15 parts kit"

I'd start with a few critical parts kits, like Midway has... (Saw these at Academy too.) Not that these parts fail as much as getting lost.

And then maybe a complete bolt or two...

Sky's the limit, up to another complete rifle.

Get used to completely breaking your rifle down (or build one from the ground up) so you know where everything goes. Don't want to be trying to figuring it out under stress.

What “stress”? Gun breaks, stop shooting, fix it.

Or go home and fix it.

No one asking about spare parts on a forum is stuck in a jungle at night under fire with a broken AR.
Ah... Such a simplistic life view. There are so many conditions that could invoke stress. Failures tend to happen at inopportune times. That's why people carry parts with them and not just at home. How about gun breaks or even losing a spring during a competition or a training class?

I keep 2-3 “oops” kits for small springs & detents, and at least 2 “consumable” parts for each gun I own, things like buffer springs, extractors, firing pins etc.

I normally add a couple of things to each shooting related order I make, like someone mentioned above.

I have had very few parts “break” for my 5.56/.223 rifles but my 6.5 Grendel and .458 Socom ARs tend to eat bolts and break things a much higher rate than “regular” ARs.

Here's most of my small parts and some assembly tools. Couple different caliber complete bolts in there as well. Bigger parts, stocks, buffer tubes, forearms, BCG's, etc., are in a tote bin. In addition, there are a couple complete LPK's.

Most common malfunction for AR rifles is steel cased ammo. Had a few gas rings get worn but not to the point of malfunction. Proper lube for BCG will keep one running a long time. The above posts are very good on being prepared especially with the small parts bin. I generally use Aero Precision for parts especially LPK with or without trigger group. Ordered Machinegunners Lube from Larue, it works really good on BCG.

Is there any store that sells Machinegunners Lube close to Asheboro?

Went to order it on line and shipping is ten dollars

Auto parts stores carry Lucas Extreme Duty gun oil and is hard to beat, hard to find Gunners Lube locally.
