I recently acquired my first M1. I know nothing about it other than what I learned thru googling. Thoughts on a replacement barrel and stock.? The receiver date is 1942 and the barrel date is 10/44.

It's an EXEL import from South Korea that probably came over in the 80's. While Garands make it easy to be a reasonably accurate shooter they're not super accurate rifles in stock form. The best part about them is learning the history of all the parts on your rifle, snuggling with it and shooting it. Garands are a pleasure to shoot! So, shoot it. If accuracy isn't terrible then keep it the way it is.

If it's a total beater and you want to go wild with it... Send it to Shuffs http://shuffsparkerizing.com/

Do yourself a favor and spend some time over at the CMP forum, massive amounts of M-1 knowledge and experience there. Their classified section is a good place to look for replacement parts. Be sure to read how to properly lube the rifle before you shoot it.

Many barrels that don't appear to check very good do shoot okay.

Also Shuff's is a good guy to deal with, he did a trigger job on one of my M-1's.

You've got a WW II veteran there. Would be a terrible shame to replace things on it that are not broken. You don't want take away from it's history to a level of "just any other rifle".
Mine is a Harrington & Richardson made M1, manufactured in 1953. So it's unlikely that it even saw action in Korea since conflict ceased there that July. Either way both our rifles are a part of American military history.

Even more fun to shoot. Kind of wish I had gone 308, but there are always more Garands.

That was my dad's dream gun. Unfortunately he passed before ever getting one!

Maybe someday I'll get one for his memory's sake.

You have to get one now. My pop's dream gun was an A1 like the one he was issued. I had everything but the lower put together before he was gone.

I love my m1. It was a hand me down from dad. He had an 03, garand, and a2 colt. He bever got the m1a to replicate his m14.
