Springfield XD45 Slide Force

Is there anything that can be done to reduce the force needed to rack the slide?
This old timer struggles to rack his, if can't soften it up a bit may have to sell it.

Have you tried pushing the frame forward rather than pulling back the slide?

A big factor in racking the slide is the weight of the recoil spring but as Jeppo pointed out, technique can overcome this.

Wolff gun springs shows 18.5 lb is standard for an XD45, but reduced power options are available (link is for the 5" guns)
