Springfield XDM

They are good guns , but they had that platform for a long time. They introduced a new style called the Echelon with a drop in fire control unit and ability to use grip modules like the sig P320

Love my XD(m). But Springfield is a lot like Savage…they seem to introduce a new model every other week. I think it really damages their market share as secondary markets (holsters, ‘upgrades’, etc) can’t/won’t keep up. And it gives the impression that there was something wrong with the previous iterations.

I’ve run XD(m) pistols in various competitions for many years without a single hiccup. It’s a shame they never got the support.

Is the model turnover a problem with Springfield or a problem with HS Produkt? Springfield is pretty beholden to Croatian manufacturing capabilities.

I doubt it's a product issue at all. Glock has been successfully selling G17s for how many decades? I think it was a marketing department issue where they got ants in the pants and could not just leave well enough alone.

Same thing with Savage. They make some of the absolute best, superbly accurate and moderately priced mass market rifles ever. But they keep changing stuff around so much that nobody can keep up and let the aftermarket mature.

This all makes sense, I didn't think about these ideas, I wish they still made them though. Like I said in the OP I got two shortly after they were released and I remembered it was a pretty good deal because you got the pistol with like 2 or three mags, mag holster, pistol holster, and some other stuff so it was a really good packaged deal for like 600 bucks. plus, if I remember correctly, it also came with a mail in rebate for like 3 extra magazines.

They're moving production from the the XD to the Echelon to get away from the grip safety (unnecessary failure point) and cringe branding (GRIP ZONE). The Echelon is them trying to modernize and promote a full size pistol that keeps up with the competition better. IMO it's the right move - in all respects the Echelon seems to be a good pistol and a worthwhile replacement over the XD.

Long time XD carrier here, still like it. But how many different lines did they have at some point, XD, XDS, XDE, XDM, XDM Elite and what not? Did I get that about right?

And most changes required new magazines, holsters, etc.
