I bought a utility trailer back from my sister in-law. Boards are rotten and need to be replaced. I'm not a carpenter by any means, but looking around the internet the general consensus seems to be that todays treated lumber is junk and one would be lucky to get 10 years out of it. My question is when in comes to staining. Apparently using wood stain requires it to be restained every 2-3 years. I happen to come across this video by a guy in western NC. Anyone every used this method? Your thoughts?

That's pretty interesting, I would have guessed it would have been slicker than snot.

My grandpa used to go to the saw mill and get oak lumber for his trailers. Would bring the wood home and coat it with burnt motor oil and let it soak up a bunch before he put it on the trailers.

I made it 16 seconds. Maybe just give us a 5 word hint about what they suggest?

White oak and used motor oil is the right answer, so kinda doesn’t matter what’s in the video anyway.

Be interesting to try Ipe if you can get it cheap, probably not oil it.

Hydraulic fluid and kerosene.
