We were heading to dinner yesterday on 15-501 in Person County. Sitting in the median was what I thought was a state trooper. As I went by it clearly said "State Police" on the side of the car. Didn't catch any other identifying markings. It looked a lot like the Virginia State Police markings but I can't figure out why one of those would be down here and sitting in the median apparently monitoring traffic. Don't remember seeing the VA crest either. Thought it was a Charger but couldn't swear to it. Weather was bad and I was focused on the "State Police" markings.

Anybody else seen a NC car marked up like this?

Perhaps they were meeting another officer or to do a transport back to VA?
NC has no 'state police' agency, they have the NC Highway Patrol.
The marked cars as well as some unmarked have SHP- as the prefix on the tag.

That's weird that you started this thread. Just a week or so ago, I saw several out of state patrol cars sitting in the median somewhere in the Greensboro area. I just can't remember the exact location. I'm thinking it was near PTIA, Greensboro's airport, maybe Bryan Blvd.

It could be related to this new DOT ELD mandate for truck fleets.

Yup that pic is a VA car, newer ford PI not a charger. No clue why they're in NC though.

Yep that is VSP. They may be cross-training, ride-sharing or transport...

I remember my cousin did an exchange week as a VSP Trooper to WV SP... He literally rode in a Dump Truck running Radar on the WV Turnpike.... He said those Mountain Boys were pretty creative!!!

My buddy was a WVSP they had a bunch of inspection stickers stolen from a gas station. So he worked the Wendy's drive through for about two hours handing out food found 5 people with the stickers that led them back to the thief.

That, children, is what we call "police work". Well done.

At 32 he was the 45th in chain of command in the entire state. That sounds like a lot but most of those people have retired now. Unfortunately at 35 he was ran over by a meth headed that was shoplifting on New Year's Eve. He was off duty tried to stop her in the parking lot and she basically ran over him. He was on a ventilator in a medically induced coma for about two weeks. Has since had to take a medical retirement even though he came back and passed all their test.

WVSP is a good organization... Take North Woods Law + Cops + Highway Patrol + Law & Order + Deliverance and that is what you got, I think I remember your buddy's incident. I had met the Troopers that were helping the guy in the van with a lift and didn't check him.

Unbelievable amount of LEs in Horry this weekend. Mostly across the waterway. Huge LE presence because of Memorial Day Black Bike Festival. Police and blue lights everywhere. None of us will venture across "the ditch".
I'm sure the DUI convictions for the holiday weekend will have the crown's coffers overflowing with gold.

Or maybe...............

I had a friend that was a Vermont trooper at one time. Said when he was new he was patrolling on one of their few interstates, just cruising along, enjoying the scenery when the dispatcher called asking for his location.

When he got to a mile marker he told her. She told him to turn around when he could - he was in New Hampshire.
