The next night after one of these snow storms is when it really can be dangerous out on the roads. A lot of melting during the day and a refreeze at night creating black ice.

I just watched the OAT fall from 35 to 32 in about 20 minutes. So don't get on the roads tonight if you don't have to and if you do, drive very slow and be safe.

Who needs black ice? My daughter was coming out the back door this am with my grandson in her arms and fell and broke her foot. Luckily my grandson was ok. Not too surprising. She woulda broken her neck before she would let him get hurt.

Good advice.

Saw a couple cars and 4wd in ditches this morning from normal ice. Dont get over confident!

Ever notice that a disproportionate number of the vehicles in ditches are luxury SUV's?
The owners drive like they believe the commercials. Saw the same up in MA too.

One car I saw I thought musta been airborn to get where it got. I also lol'd at the rope tied around one of the side mirrors..like they were gonna pull it out with it.

Dang! Glad your grandson survived that unscathed and I hate it for your daughter. A broken anything below the waist can definitely limit one's mobility. I hope she heals up soon.

I'm leaving Saluda SC at about 0700 to drive back to Raleigh, and not in a vehicle good for these kinds of conditions. Going to be some crawling in places.

4wd is great for helping to get going but does little for stopping. You are so right about overconfidence with some drivers. FWD or 4wd you still have to be cautious.

Should be fun.:D Be safe.

The real issue is stopping. That’s what people forget. Whether you have a 1979 corolla or the latest AWD super suv with advanced traction control when you hit the brakes they handle the same.

People in their super 4wd do handle better driving so they speed up. Then they hit the brakes and slide into the ditch. The dude in the corolla drives by waving at 10 mph. Lol.

It’s called four wheel drive and not four wheel stop for a reason.
