One ham radio friend ran the wire under the eaves of his roof. It works on all bands up to 80m.

While stealth or small antennas may tune or match and not damage your radio, they are not efficient and are lossy - so both receive and transmit performance degrades. If it's all you can do, it's all you can do. "Stealth" or small antennas are never optimal; not the same as a proper antenna. TANSTAAFL

Still any wire in the air is better than one on the ground or none.

For HF, a 12ga insulated black wire is pretty hard to see from a distance. Even when you know it's there. For VHF/UHF you can hide a wire J-pole in a piece of PVC.
