I have seen the full size silhouette targets. They make smaller ones that are 60%, 30% , etc of the size. What I'm looking for is what size should I get to practice with that will sort of simulate shooting at say 300 to 400 yards( u know because the target stinks with distance :) ) but I will actually be shooting at 100yds ( the longest range I have available ATM). I hope that makes sense. Thanks

as our resident steel target maker he'll have some words to help
1/3 silhouette at 100 yards simulates full size at 300 yards. 4" round at 100 yards simulates 12" target at 300. Other than projectile drop compensation, the optical interpretation is the same.

It's pretty simple math.

If you're shooting at 1/3 the distance (100 vs 300), you need a target that's 1/3 (33%) the size. That's why the 1/3 silhouette works, and why a 4" works in place of a 12". ;)

If you're shooting at 1/4 the distance (100 vs 400), it should be 1/4 (25%) sized. Thus a 3" round would act like a 12".

What would a 4 inch round at 600 be at 100? 2 inches at 300, 1 inch at 150, 1/2 inch at 75? Is that right? That's what we shoot at when we are in the "zone". But 600 yards is a long way for us. We ain't in the "zone" a lot.

2/3" (because you want 1/6th of 4")

Break out your elementary school fractional math. :p
