I made a quick stop at Personal Defense Handgun Center south of Raleigh a couple days ago and they had what looked like a used ( consignment ?) Model 49 and I swear the tag said Sterling Silver Grips.

It wore slimish metal grips that could have been tarnished silver with some design on them. I dunno, no other engraving or special-ness about the typical early Smith blued revolver, just these funky grips, if I recall tagged at $600-700 or thereabouts. I immediately thought how slippery and uncomfortable those grips would be.

Is that what they call a barbecue gun in Chicago or something ?

At one time sterling silver grips were popular in the South West, generally found on 1911's. Most were made in Mexico.
As for P.D.H.C. For the most part they are a nice group, but their pricing is generally HIGH.
