So I picked up a noveske lower from a pawn shop a couple weeks ago complete with a battle arms ambi safety. It feels like shit. It drags between selections and doesn't "snap" back and forth from safe to fire. I swapped grips on it today and didn't see anything abnormal with the spring and detent pin. Any guesses? It's gonna drive me nuts.

Take the detent out and see how the safety feels inside the lower without the detent pressure on it. If it feels smooth then, dull the end of the detent just a tad with a file and see if it helps.

With no detent it spins freely and smoothly. I haven't taken the safety out yet to look at it. Just to clarify it's a new build and has seen zero use

sit on your couch with the lower and flip the safety while you watch tv. That'll smooth it out

Oil it and it and maybe take a coil or two out of the spring. I had a lower parts kit that had a longer than normal safety detent spring that made the safety really annoying. I installed a spare spring from another kit and it’s perfect now.

Check the groove and end points where the detente rides on the safety for any burs, slightly sand the tip of the detent and then flick it...flick it good!!!

if it is a milspec brass detent put it in there and forget about it. it will break in with use.

if it is a 'black' detent you might want to file it down a little bit. these are made out of steel and are a pita to get working smoothly.

oil helps both.

ymmv

Finally finished the upper and got back around to pulling the detent. It is silver and looks to be steel. It has a very sharp pointy tip and does not look like a normal detent. File it down?

I did. Definitely easier to manipulate but still doesn't "snap" from safe to fire. I'm going to swap the spring and plunger from another rifle to see what that does.
