I bought one of the first CZ Scorpions to hit the market, have many mags for it, and the mags work great. I bought an SP9A3 and noticed that there are 2 options for Scorpion mag lowers.

A3 Tactical polymer $199

Lingle aluminum $357

Both take AR grips & safety, include oversized mag release & ambi LRBHO, and require an aftermarket AR trigger with a narrow hammer, since a mil spec hammer is too wide.

Each has their minor exceptions such as Lingle requires use of the HBI buffer spacer and A3 will not work with CMC triggers for some reason.

The $199 A3 lower is pretty easy to justify simply based on the cost of mags, and I don’t mind polymer at all, so I’m leaning that way.
Does anyone have experience with one or the other?

Well I did as much reading as I could, found a few comparisons of the two lowers and most seem to agree that as long as you don’t have a [irrational] problem with polymer, the A3 lower is the way to go. Not that there is anything wrong with the Lingle, both work very well, but the 75% premium doesn’t get you any additional functionality.

I also didn’t like that the Lingle requires the use of the HBI short stroke buffer. I’m not sure I want to run a buffer and if I do I’d probably choose a 1/2” buffer not a 1” like the HBI.

So I now have an A3 lower, Rise trigger, and MOE SL grip on the way. I plan on using a BAD single sided safety for now, and we’ll see if I feel the need to upgrade that.

Edit: I didn’t want to wait too long to buy since the A3 lowers were unobtainium for the majority of the year and they’re only sold by Rainier Arms.

A3 just came out with their new revision of the Stribog-Scorpion lower and it works with all aftermarket Scorpion mags, including the PSA ones…which I have tons of for my AK-V. I went with the A3 and have had one chance to test it at the range. PSA mags worked just fine and I had no issues with the 100 to 125 rounds I shot. I like the looks too compared to the Stribog straight mags and the original Stribog lower.

I have a first-run A3T on my SP9A1 with a CMC PCC trigger. Difference in the bolts I presume. I use the Magpul mags and have had zero issues whatsoever. 10/10 would buy again.

“Brown Santa” brought my Rainier and Primary Arms orders last night so I have my parts, but haven’t picked up my Stribog yet.

I have the A3 Tacical lower, MOE SL grip, Rise 140 trigger.

I like this lower so far. The design and injection molding quality look really good. I did notice a couple very minor flashing spots the size of a thumb nail clipping. A standard AR safety selector fits and functions well, it actually spins very smoothly. The Rise trigger comes with anti-rotational pins but no the little connecting bar like KNS, but it’s nice that the lower has a recess for that bar, nice little touch IMO. The trigger guard is nicely oversized, but my favorite part about this lower is the mag release! It’s a steel scorpion compatible mag release that has 2 high contact points, one on either side of the trigger guard, and a full width duck bill type contact point below the trigger guard. I may try to get another of these to throw on my Scorpion SBR.

Obviously the main attractor of this lower is the Scorpion mag compatibility. I quickly tested my different types of mags and was glad to see that both OEM smoke mags and Magpul mags dropped freely. The PSA banana mag came out easily but not truly “drop free”. I’m not sure if that has to do with the fact that this mag is screen printed(?) with a banana design or not since I only have this single PSA mag. That mags is 100% novelty to me anyway, so I don’t care. Magpul will be my primary mag.

My single complaint so far is that the bolt release isn’t textured at all. It would be nice to have some kind of texturing on this part rather than smooth black paint.

Too late for me since I already purchased but for anyone else who may find this thread… why did you choose Lingle for both? Any feedback on them?

Talk to me about the HBI buffer. Lingle says they’re required, I’ve seen other people use 1/2” buffers made from Delrin or various size spacers 3D printed in plastic. Are you using the HBI? Any issues with it? Does LRBHO still work 100%?

i chose those because I have a crapload of AK-V mags. No other good reason. Ive never used a buffer and I'm not sure why Lingle would say that. Mine work perfectly fine without a buffer. No problem with the LRBHO

I keep putting off getting one until they release the SP9A3K, but I guess I am going to have to break down and get the regular SP9A3.

@Jerzsubbie have you shot it yet?

EDIT: just saw a post on Reddit where one of the GP people said the SP9A3K was in the ATF's hands for review and approval as of this past September. I think that means we could see them in a couple of months if they get off their asses!

Between holiday travel and my wife getting Covid, I haven’t even picked mine up yet.
