Looking for suggestions towards a "Barn Coat" or "Pea Jacket" of just decent manufacture (not "tactical").

I carry OWB and am looking for a mid-thigh length coat for more casual (cool-weather) wear when neither (i) a hoodie or (ii) a blazer (my usual "cover") with rain/top coat is appropriate. My black leather jacket is waist-length and so not conducive to concealed OWB carry.

So not trying to be outdoorsman-of-the-year or Joe-tactical; just looking for a well-made garment. Thanks for any suggestions.

My favorite piece of gear ever issued was a peacoat. I'd still wear it after 20+ years if it would fit. Lol

I have a Cabelas Barn Coat that is no longer made. LL Bean makes a similar one but it does not have the bellows pockets that my Cabelas has and they are handy for shells when shooting skeet. Carhartt makes so many different ones, it makes my head hurt to look at them.

I've got a longer carhartt coat (item number 101683)I picked up a few years ago and it's till going strong. I can sling my 11.5 inch pistol or a folded ak to the side and conceal it but never do. Works great for owb holsters in the winter though. Just a heads up, the guy carhartt uses in their pictures isn't nearly as good looking and manly as I hope I look in it. Good luck with you search.

I have a Fieldmaster barn coat that I got at Sears 25 years ago. I have worn the hell out of it and it has held up well. Unfortunately, I don't think they are made anymore, but you could probably pick one up off an auction site.

I love my Navy-issued peacoat. But it is heavy, it is hot, and it is long.

I really like Woolrich. Non-tactical but will hold up in the harshest weather and will last for years.

Right now they have a raincoat for sale:

If my wife wouldn't divorce me, I'd get it.

If the Blue was in stock in Large I think I might have my next coat, that is awesome!

Ive been looking at some various chore coats recently, but trying to justify the price etc
Loving this thread though!

To contribute to my own thread, I thought this (https://www.vermontcountrystore.com/mens-vermont-barn-coat/product/72328) looked nice, but (i) a bit on the expensive end and (ii) not entirely sure about "snaps".

Have appreciated all responses (and any further to come).

I had the Beans one & it was a great coat.

I have a couple of old Czech surplus "jackets" that are heavyweight but unlined that I like..but I have to admit my wife hates them as they are in the Czech rain camo pattern.

I have this coat in green. It a great coat. It's a bit heavy, but when I wear it around the farm, I'm warm. And it would conceal whatever you needed to.

All of the Duluth stuff it top notch too. I've had a few of their shirts and pants. Well made.
I have the green one also.

Outstanding coat.

I'm not big on heavy outer coats, especially for concealment. They get hot and you have to take them off. And if you end up in a restaurant, you look funny if you don't. So, I'm more of an outer shell guy with a sweatshirt or piece of fleece underneath.
For knocking around the house or even in town for that matter, it's a surplus Goretex parka shell.

I have one of LL Bean's Original Field Coat - or called something like that. I have had it at least 20 years and it looks new and no, I really have not tried to take care of it. That thing is a beast, big pockets, warm, and crazy durable.

Been a while, but thought I'd report back. I took Georgel's advice to heart and found this (new) lighter weight version of the same coat as I'd posted above: https://www.vermontcountrystore.com/lightweight-barn-coat-for-men/product/76748 . The (plaid) liner is a thin flannel and the coat is quite light, though rugged. Long enough to cover one's necessities (IYKWIM), but light enough to wear inside in comfort and it is not so bulky as to look "off" worn inside a store/restaurant. The cuffs can be rolled back.

Color is a bit more on the brown side of Khaki than the picture shows: on my computer, the image appears more like a "washed stone."

Anyway, I'd recommend if others might be in the market for something similar.

PS there are hand warming pockets behind the lower front square pockets.
