Are the portable solar panels out worth anything? I've been eyeballing them for some time now.

Dunno yet. It's 5w max. Has a little aiming thingy in the corner to optimize the position. I'll update after I've tried it out...

What are you waiting on? REI Garage Sale is this weekend and I need to know what to do if I find one.

LOL... I'll get right on it...

I really like that portable grill. I just got an older, but still BNIB coleman camp stove. An uncle of mine died a year or so ago and my aunt finally got around to cleaning everything out so that she can move closer to family. Got a few tools and a lantern as well.

So, I took it outside. It's overcast and drizzly here in Raleigh, but when I used the little aiming device to position the panel with my phone plugged in it started charging. Not sure how to check the charging power on this phone's settings, if it's possible, but it wasn't slow charging. So that's something...

I use one of these to check the solar power going into my device. Just put it inline.

That's cool. I'll check it with my old phone if I can't figure it out on my new one. My HTC1 showed that info in the battery settings. I used it to pick out chargers. Not sure about the Turbo 2 I have now, but I still have the HTC1 somewhere.

On a roll today... Got this at dinner! An insulated growler and tumblers for camping! Now I can bring my favorite local microbrews with me kayaking/camping...

There are some apps that measure charging current. I used to use one that was Samsung-specific, so you might have to look for one specific to your phone's mfr.

Many phones are good to go off the shelf. Haven't had a chance to research mine... So many nooks and crannies in the programs these days. A lot of apps are redundant anymore...
