Swiss vote for tighter gun control

Next, Brussels will force the Swiss to accept immigrants. I worked for 22 years for a Swiss company and I remember my Swiss colleagues telling me that it is almost impossible for “non producing” immigrants to immigrate to Switzerland.

It isn’t scary because it’s red vs black, and has a cute name, but what is it?

How soon they forget. Wasn't hard to travel when there were border posts. All you need to do was show your passport. Wonder what the compliment rate is going to be? Swiss still have a large number of automatic WWII weapons there.

Young v. Old. Most Swiss men find a way to not serve in the Swiss military these days. As in most western European countries the majority of the young have no allegiance to their nation or their culture and identify in the global materialistic collective. Coming to the U.S. in another 20 years.

Yup,

Gun rights proponents complained the rules could disarm law-abiding citizens and encroach on Switzerland’s heritage and national identity, which includes a well-armed citizenry.

This is going to be the US, when the Libs get a president elected and control the house. I believe that Trump will win reelection, but in 2025, I can see i major push for gun control.

Ha, you are very optimistic. @BatteryOaksBilly care to pick a date?

Fun facts:
  • Most seemed to have voted yes because they were bombarded since last year (I think it was November when Protel and others got enough signatures to put it on ballot; different from the US, if the Swiss gather 50000 signatures they can vote on any law after it is approved by .gov and before it comes into effect) that if they did not say yes, Switzerland would have been kicked off Schengen and their economy would collapse. But, that is not blackmailing, right?
  • For those who votes yes on principle, their argument was on the lines of "Nobody needs a semiauto rifle." I think I've heard this song before...
  • In 2005 when they voted to join Schengen, the Swiss government pinky promised the agreement would never ever ever ever affect their gun rights. Lying to its people is not an exclusive domain of American politicians...
  • There is a movement to make military service compulsory.
  • Many haven't bothered to note they also voted on that in 5 years new Schengen regulations are automatically pushed into law, as in the Swiss people no longer will have right to vote on it.
  • There are also Swiss citizens looking forward to the day they join the EU. I give 10 years tops, probably 5.

If the EU lasts that long.
