Hey guys. I'm in the market for a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road V6 4x4 AT.

I went by a dealer today and got an OTD price of $43k. I'm pretty sure that they will go at least a couple of grand lower than that.

I work for one of the largest dealers in the Charlotte area. The place I went by today is not one of our stores. I'm going to see what our Toyota store can do next week.

Two techs at my location just bought a Tacoma. One got his from our store and the other said that he got a better deal from the store that I went to today.
What kind of deals did you guys get?

What I do: Email the internet sales manager at every dealer within 75 miles with your specific requirements and ask for an OTD price and what they have in stock or arriving shortly that meets your criteria.

seems though you’d get special consideration at your own dealer, at least those folks I know who work for other dealers (mainly Lexus or bmw) do.

I was briefly looking at Tundras, and there didn’t seem to be any to be had in my region, for the most part. Hopefully Tacomas are more readily available.

We get a great deal on leasing but I'm not interested in that.

We leased my wife's tundra in 2019 and bought it in 2022. Mainly because it was worth more in 2022 than we leased it in 2019. The guaranteed buyout price was alot lower and I could buy it and turn it, and make a good profit. But we kept it.

What we didn't know was the tax on a vehicle is not payed on a lease and when we bought it we had to pay a couple grand to the state for the privilege 🤬

This was my method pre-covid. Tried once during covid and I was plainly ignored. Haven’t tried in the past year, but I would guess it should work for most brands.

However, Toyota is in one of the worst inventory positions of all mfgs. Their body on frame vehicles are the worst, they typically sell while still in transit, at msrp plus pointless port and dealer add-ons.

I bought my 2018 TRD OR 4x4 loaded for 12% off msrp (along with a 16 and 19 4R at the same discount) but I know those deals are impossible these days. I’d be happy to pay msrp and no ridiculous dealer add-ons (nitrogen, ceramic coating, door edge guard, roadside assistance, etc).

One word of caution, if you haven’t already, try to drive a Tacoma for a weekend. The engine and transmission are a terrible match for each other making the driving experience very annoying. It doesn’t even get great gas mileage, which would make the engine/trans behavior more understandable. This is why transmission tunes are so popular for the 3rd Gens. This is a big part of why I sold mine.

I've already gotten them down $3500 from their first offer. I think I can realistically get them down another $1500-$2000.

The multi dealer option is the best.
Last vehicle I bought new I had 3 dealers with the same
Vehicle going against each other.
My nephew is in the market for a new Chevy Truck. He has 6 dealers working against each other. All within a hr if his house.
Plus next week is the best time if the month too buy

If I tell you what I paid for my 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport, you will cry or not believe me. Sticker was 41k and I was OTD for 35k.

I get an email or call at least once a month asking for me to trade it in, even with over 100k miles.

That's probably the last vehicle I was able to buy "off the lot" for the foreseeable future. I did what most have suggested, went to several dealerships, e-mailed, etc... Laid out what I wanted, what I was looking for and told them to call me when one was on the lot. Took a couple of weeks and got a call, looked it over, stated my price and they did the dance but finally agreed.

The days of car buying like that are gone... Especially with Toyota and Southeastern Toyota Group as @Jerzsubbie pointed out.

I keep telling them whenever they call me the same thing... When you have a new Trailhunter on the lot, call me and I'll trade it in that day.... They basically have said that unless you want to get on the list, don't expect to see one until around Q3 or Q4 2024.

Sounds like you are in a great position already. Grab it!

What color? Does it have the blacked out wheels etc?

Bought a 4runner. Picked it out and handed them a check. Still took a while to get it done, but save a small amount.

I get those emails and calls too, asking me to trade it in. And after every time I drop it off for service.

I’d be tempted if I hadn’t lifted it, cut up the front bumper, sawed the exhaust pipe off behind the rear axle and put new wheels on it 😂

Doubt they have any manual transmission ones on their lot either.

The cravings box has a medium coke, chalupa supreme, beefy 5-layer burrito, cinnamon twists, and crunchy Taco.

$5.

White with gray interior. No blacked out wheels, I'm not a blacked out kind of guy.
Have you driven one much? As @Jerzsubbie mentioned above, the engine and transmission combo is definitely not great. I have a 2019 with around 110k on it and I honestly think it is getting worse. I was waiting to get back into a Tundra for second year production but hear they are still having some turbo issues. I might just wait and see how the 2024 Tacoma feels.

I'm a Toyota fanboy and have been forever. Loved my 2006 Tacoma and my 2012 Tundra. I'd rather drive my sons 2005 Tundra than my current Tacoma. Another 125k miles and I will have driven 1 million miles in Toyota vehicles.

I've got 227,000 miles on my 07 TRD Off Road. I have been casually looking for another as well. I like the Sport model but seeing very limited options on the lot. Every time I talk to someone they seem more interested in getting me to trade or sale the one I got than selling me a new one. Hard to get anyone to give me a price on the phone or email unless "i come in and take it for a drive and let us tell you what we will give you for yours". Drives me crazy. I've about decided to just keep mine and keep driving it.

The fact that the 3 pedal version is still a thing is why I was looking at a Taco. (I only buy vehicles with manual transmissions.)

I am going to wait until the new ones are out and I can find one with a stick to test drive. I may be waiting a while.

Yeah I got lucky with my 2019. I told the dealer I only wanted a manual. He laughed. I laughed. Then I turned to walk out. He said wait wait. Checked the computer, had one with 8k miles on it, hadn’t been put on the lot yet. Paid for it and left.

Some banks and credit unions offer car buying services. Costco does this as well. Let them do the haggling.

I went through Costco on my last vehicle. It was an easy, smooth experience. My membership has run out now. I'll haggle with them, I work for a dealership.

Just tell them you are not going to have a trade in. Sell it yourself. That's what I'm doing.

I might just keep it as a spare. Honestly, I told my wife I needed a dog truck and it still runs great. Then use the new one for travels, commute to work, etc.
