Just curious on some thoughts. Do you feel that the word "Tactical" is overused in the world of firearms and shooting? and do you think the market for firearm and shooting related products is over saturated with the word "Tactical?" I just sometimes find it funny because the word gets thrown around every day and so loosely. It sometimes almost seems that the word has transitioned over time to actually mean "Tacti-cool". I will give one example, last week I was in a gun store browsing around and I saw a small bag, had some different sized pockets you could probably fit a sub-compact sized handgun in there with a couple mags and maybe some other odds and ends stuff. Anyway, I forget who the manufacturer of the bag was but sure enough right there on the tag, they made sure they didn't miss a beat when printing the word "tactical" on it. I just kind of smiled and randomly thought to myself ok, what exactly is it about THIS bag right here that is tactical? I mean is it REALLY a TACTICAL bag, or would it just be TACTI-COOL to own it?

I do think it’s overused. It’s almost like a selling point like “Super Sport” and “Limited” used to be on cars.

I’d much rather have something described as useful or reliable.

Yes, it's overused marketing, and typically misconstrued to appeal to a..specific.. audience. Screenshot_20230912_154656_Chrome.jpg
With the definition in mind, it would be fair to consider a .243 bolt action rifle with an optic mounted and slig attached to be "tactical" so long as you're on your way or planning to accomplish a hunting venture.

The marketing 'tactic' of slapping "tactical" on products is a ploy to make the buyer feel as though they can justify the product because it's going to fill that "purpose" they need/want filled... but most of the time, the concept is presented to make you feel like a "Tier One Operator" because you bought a sweet new Mlok attachment.

I award you a score of 110% for the most perfect and precise response!

I agree that it is an overused marketing gimmick...but it works, hence, it is overused. When I first got into firearms seriously as an adult, I was somewhat taken in with the "tacticool" stuff as well as I saw it (incorrectly) as "better" for the purposes I intended to use them for. Experience and wisdom have proven otherwise, of course, but for people just dipping their toes into the firearm and self-defense world, it is like a bright light to a moth.

You guys wanna see what actually IS tactical?! THIS S.O.B. right here. Meet Lucifer, Lucifer hails from the 7th circle of hell where he served as satans advisor before being morphed to a sheetz parking lot where he was destined to make some poor bastards life (me) miserable for a period of at least 10 - 18 years, after which he will report back to the 7th circle of hell and report to his protege AKA Satan, his findings and analysis of human life. My luck? he's actually immortal. Navy SEALs aint got S**t on Lucifer, Lucifer can leap at least 8 feet from a couch (yes I have measured it) and land clung to your leg, teeth, claws and all with extreme hatred and prejudice with killer intentions. You will hardly ever see him, except last minute when you round a corner in the house and you have a 13 pound ball of misery, and hatred clung to your leg, oh yea, don't try to shake him off either, the claws and teeth only sink deeper. Also, its never a surprise when you get woken up out of a dead sleep to that same ball of hatred, and misery having a death clung to your arm and leg. Think youll throw him off? guess again. Lucifer has turned into helicopter propellors after violent attacks being made by him against a peacefully sleeping soul with the wall being his stopping point and it just pisses him off and he comes back for more. So, any of this "tactical labeled" gear and propaganda? try harder, you met your match with my tactical cat.

Tac/tactical, op/ops/operator, pro, and x are all over used but they wouldn't do it if it didn't work. We like words that sound cool and make our brains play the A-Team theme song.

I bought some Tactical Shooting Glasses. I am sure that makes me much more accurate. And deadly. They were $29.95. Prove me I am wrong. 🤣

I hate the word and anything tactarded.

I respect the real thing and despise the poseurs.

It's been overused since I got into guns in a big way, about 20 years ago. Laughed about it back then too.

you kidding me dude? you should automatically know that having tactical shooting glasses makes you the most lethal person ever in the existence of mankind...

What's a bigger warning, tactical or military grade?
thats a tough one. as someone who spent 13 years in the Army I can assure anyone, having anything "military grade" which really means "having something built by the lowest bidder" is nothing to brag about lol.

Quote of the day 👍

That term has morphed into a marketing buzzword that turns of the initial target buyer!
