@BASIL and all the other machinist here. What is a good quality tap and die set for a home user. Don’t need any professional grade, but don’t want crap either.

HSS if possible for hand use. They are less likely to break. A broken tap can be a real bear to remove.
 
I've had good experience with Irwin.
Is/was the same as Mac and Matco, which are the sets I own.
I kick myself for not getting a set with drill bits. But I have gotten by fine without most letter gauge bits for a couple decades, so the value is in the eye of the user.
