The great folks over at DOT have decided to repave all the roads around me. They haven't actually repaved it though - just threw down loose gravel with tar mixed in. I find myself with an abundance of tar on my truck. I tried some meguiars foam stuff from autozone, but that barely put a dent in it. I've used Stoner Tar remove in the past - and it worked well. I can't seem to find that anywhere though. That stuff would actually "melt" the tar away.

Do you guys have any suggestions for tar removal?

I have some of the turtle wax bug/tar remover I got at Walmart, it's in a green bottle. It's done pretty well for me. I think it's $4 or so

Citrisol

It’ll melt the tar

Ditto here. Be careful with some of these type of products......if you use too much elbow grease for too long.......you will remove paint.

I have used rag with a bit of gasoline.

Agree that WD-40 should do the job, at least on that NY yankee type asphalt.

WD-40 or kerosene. Softens it right up.

WD-40 is something like 95% mineral spirits, 4.9% something that eventually turns into varnish, and .1% propellant.

Just trying to save you a buck.

They have Stoner still however it comes in an aerosol can now instead of a spray bottle. If you want to pay for it last one I got was 11 bucks or so. All the other solutions are great as well and usually cheaper.

For something different, try Acrysol by Kent Automotive. It wont hurt paint. Its good stuff, like Goo Gone, just in an aerosol can

So is the OP a Yankee from NY? If that's the case and he now lives down here in the Tarheel state, then the best solution would be for him to get out his belt sander to get rid of that tar.:D:):D

Years ago, back in the 1980's, I used a tar remover from NAPA. I can't recall the name of it but it was in a NAPA blue can and was clear liquid much like acetone or mineral spirits. It worked very well at removing asphalt tar. They may still sell it.

Nah - moved up north here when I was 2. born in LA.

I tried the WD40, since that is what I had laying around. Worked great on on the running boards. I'll try it out on the paint when I wash it next weekend. Didn't want to leave it on paint too long.

Is there another brand of mayonnaise available in the South?
I told my wife 27 years ago when she took up around here there were some things that were NOT negotiable .
1. Dukes Mayo
2. Heinz Ketchup
3. Charmin striking paper
4. Jif nut butter
No problems thus far.....

We may be cut from the same bolt of cloth.

I had a very similar conversation with my wife. Almost to the letter.

There are things that just work and there ain't no sense in changing them.

That list is one of them.
