I just noticed it today. Not sure how that error was made, but the issue date is correct, written right on the tag, as is the temporary registration in the glove box.

I’m not going to sweat it, but I need to travel into SC and back in that vehicle next week. If I were to even be pulled I would assume the issue date of the tag and the date of the temporary registration would answer any questions.

I’m not sure how I missed it but I went 2 years with my truck tags. I remember getting it inspected. I don’t even know how I didn’t get a ticket but I did have to get a new license plate.

Deadbeat next door has an expired Florida tag on a Kia that's been in multiple accidents since that tag expired. Nothing happens.

If the temp tag was issued by any sort of dealership, its quite normal for the paperwork to be late or not completed yet .Most DMV's are understaffed or overworked . Its also possible that IF the temp tag was assigned at a dealership that the tag was sent to the dealership but they didn't contact you yet. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you have insurance on the vehicle.

No need for concern. There are 7 million illegal invaders with no tag, no insurance, and a car that doesn’t belong to them smashing into people, my wife being one. If you get stopped in one of the sanctuary counties just identify as a tall, light skin Mexican and say no inglass senõr. Off you go.

Oh but @fieldgrade is a white male and tries to do the right thing. He is probably screwed.

The dealership needs to fix this but the effort involved to get that correct would be insurmountable. If reg and all other paperwork is correct. I'd take the chance. I suspect it won't be noticed.

However, SC transportation cops or whatever they are called are a PITA and equipped with card readers to wrong all your rights.

Post and Courier headline-

"Old guy dies in a hail of gunfire in new Subaru Outback.
Wife sues.
Awarded billions."

As long as your not the nissan altima with a dented fender and bumper hanging off swerving through traffic......(oh hell they dont get pulled over either) you should be fine.

I bought a brand new suv from the Toyota dealership 3 yrs ago this April. Got the temporary tag the day I drove it off the lot. Received my license plate about two to three weeks later, around the first of May.
The permanent tag had a June 21 sticker. I thought it was odd and called the dmv, I was told that is was correct and my taxes were paid for a year.

Something just didn't sound right because the brand new plate had a 2021sticker on it. It was a very small printed date.

The following May I received my bill for the taxes, got it inspected and paid my taxes. No sticker was ever mailed. Called the dmv and was told that they were backlogged and that it would show up as paid if I had gotten pulled over by the law. Alright. I even asked a cop in parking lot to run my tags, sure enough he said it showed valid. This was July or August of 2022.

Well last May/ June I got the bill, got it inspected and tried to pay my taxes online. I couldn't do it, said I had call or visit to straighten it out. Stood in line for 45 minutes at the Atlantic Ave office, I was told my tags were 2 years out of date and that I needed to turn my original plates in. She said that I was issued a 2 month sticker after getting my plates after the thirty day tags.

The lady was nice and explained it twice, but could tell by the look on my face that I wasn't following that at all. I still don't understand it.

Nuts.

My wife bought a new car last month. 30 day tag. New tag came 30 days later with a April 2024 sticker. Then bill for property tax came which must be paid before an annual sticker is issued. Basically you get another damn temporary tag after the first cardboard 30 day tag. Welcome to North Carolina lunatic DMV.

I saw a reg plate, two weeks ago, on Duraleigh Rd in Raleigh that was 5/19.
My work truck I registered it twice so far since 2019. I drove that truck everyday and didn't even think about the registration. I got pulled over and got a ticket for out of date tags about this time last year. I thought I was in for one expensive bill to get back on the road. I thought I was going to have to pay 2020, 21, and 22 taxes and registration all at the same time. I went in the tag place and told the lady what I was there for. She just gave me a whole new tag and I was out of there for less than $200.

Since fake SC temp tags apparently flood the “market” for bad tags, I believe they have a more relaxed attitude down there. Sorta like don’t ask don’t tell. Just don’t get in a wreck.
