After reading this, and this, I wondered...

Could a Wuhan style lab be the reason to nuke China? It might save the world from a deadly pandemic [shivers from actually typing that] and we would have to take their word for why they did it.

If we ponder our situation and conclude that starting a nukyular war will make us safer, it's time we step aside as a species and allow the next attempt at intelligent life to have a go at it.

It's not our species that I worry about, it's our subspecies: politicians and elites.

I think the world as we knew it 20 or 30 years ago already ended. For normal people this is a post-prosperity world.
It’s a 4th turning cycle right now, and we’re rapidly approaching the climax / crisis point. If we come out of it on the positive side, which isn’t guaranteed, we will have the prosperity of a 1st turning, think post WW2.

Reminds me of that line from Jurassic Park, where the guy says something along the lines of, “you spent so much time asking if you could when what you needed to be asking is if you should.

If we ponder our situation and conclude that having we should have nuclear weapons to make us safer, it's time we step aside as a species and allow the next attempt at intelligent life to have a go at it.

Right now, it's a worldwide Mexican standoff between countries that have nukes, because none feel they would be safer if they get rid of them, even though they know that using them is an outrageous notion. [There are exceptions, like Iran, which just compounds the problem.]

It's becoming the same thing with biological and bioweapons research.

And then I look at China: run by a communist dictator, filthy and disease infested, a culture that deifies piracy, theft, and has no problem with lying and cheating, and produces the worlds biggest supply of cheap junk. They engineered a virus and it either escaped containment (there is still a lot of suspicion about the HVAC replacement that was contracted to the French) or they let it go on purpose.

What scares me is the idea that those rat bastards are cooking up something even more deadly.

Why has there not been a retaliatory response to unleashing a bioweapon plague? Perhaps because the US is up to it's eyeballs in it, having illicitly and secretly funded the research.

Why do only Chinese biolabs worry you?

Nukes are expensive and complicated to build even given all the science and engineering.
Bioweapons seem fairly cheap and easy to manufacture, but maybe I'm just wrong about that.
Nevertheless, my guess is that eventually a bug kills us, not a nuke.

Well to be fair we’d have to at least nuke Chapel Hill and Ralph Baric too. And maybe Fort Detrick and a handful of other US based labs. That would all hit pretty close to home for some of us. And if we survived all that we’d have to nuke the labs all over the Ukraine and maybe Taiwan. It sounds like a mess to me.

And in attempting to do so, instead of destroying the bases and all the stored pathogens, what's the probability that the nukes just damage or destroy the facility and that causes the nasties to get released instead?

There are easier ways to commit suicide.

We're at Spanish Civil war/Manchuria (pre-WW2) point with some version of the Axis aggression ala WW2 coming down the pike towards us. Folks think a new world war would be a brief conflict. I think the opposite and I don't think it will go world wide nuclear.

That's how it goes. man. 20 years is a generation and so much has changed since 2000 (or older!)...just life.
Every generation says it .
And hence the basis of the 4th turning, generational, theory. The pattern of archetypal generations forming a rotating constellation of highs and lows.
