Tesla Pickup

... the humanity.

That actually looks pretty good.
It's better than his, which looks like some sort of bulked up Polaris golf cart.

That was more entertaining than I expected.

"“It’s going to be a truck that is more capable than other trucks,” Musk said in a recent podcast interview. “The goal is to be a better truck than a [Ford] F-150 in terms of truck-like functionality and be a better sports car than a standard [Porsche] 911. That’s the aspiration.”

Hahaha. Yeah, sure Elon. Good luck with that. Maybe get your sportscars to be better than a 911 first, then move onto truck.

This is from the man who brought us the flying car. I'd pay attention...

I’d be interested in a small electric pickup, but not this.good for her though.

Big order and big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to get the best of both.

Electric is great for commuting or for predictable routes if it has the range to do it. The point of a truck (for me) is to be able to get something. Near or far. Heavy or light. Towing. And ideally 4wd with off-road capability. Pretty much the opposite of electric.

An older F250 and a Tesla S or new roadster would be awesome. Utility when needed, fun the rest of the time.

With the extended capabilities of the newer Tesla products are they that much more limited than a gas powered truck for range or towing or off road if the vehicle is built for said purposes?

Size and weight of the battery pack is still the limiting factor. Drive 6 hours with a trailer somewhere, and pick something up to bring back, all in one day? Not gonna happen. I suppose I could rent a u-haul.

It could actually off-road pretty well if set up for that - great (electric motor) torque and all that.

It isn't all bad, don't get me wrong. It just doesn't fit the profile that well. One advantage I didn't think of before would be that electric would be better for occasional use (if the batteries stay topped off) - no IC engine or transmission with fluids and lubricants to age.

I was just pointing out that for me, "electric" and "truck" don't fit together that well. We will probably get there. Somehow - may not be pure electric.

With their fast chargers, I think it could work in one day.
I dont know, I wouldnt count the guy out just yet

At some point, part of that trailer would also be dedicated to extra battery capacity.

But you’re right that we are a long way from 12 consecutive hours of driving in that manner.

Have you seen the idea for a rentable generator trailer to extend electric car range? Both smart and funny.

Their new battery plant is coming online soon. New batteries are supposed to be good for 1 million miles, same as their motor.

The Model 3 uses the same motor as their semi truck, supposed to be good for 1 million miles also.
