The 45 is so slow that..

Well...technically a fathom is a unit of LENGTH equal to 6 feet, though it most often refers to depth of water.

Soooo...when you're saying it's measured in fathoms, it could easily mean "too fast for fps to be meaningful".

Just sayin'.

Was at the Uhrarrie range long ago banging at paper plates, 100 yards with my rested 1911 and hitting more then not using Kentucky windage. Now that was fun, I swear I could almost take a hit of my cigarette before the bullet hit the target. After wacking it a few times, heard an old guy sitting next to me with a scoped 30-30 say. I could do that if I didn't have this cheap scope on it.. Talked to him after a bit, he was getting his rifle ready for deer season. Felt sorry for the deer.

True story:

In the ED we got a guy in, shot in the shoulder with a .22. It was perforating trauma, and actually did a number. Anyway, he and a friend had been arguing about the 'seriousness' (my word) of the .22, he told his friend it wasn't much more than a BB, and he could catch one mid-air. Some people in the .45-only camp are almost the same way.
