Having a discussion on FB and my cousin found this. CDC has fatalities in NC as 14,427 which pushes the total to 41,758 right now.

If you take that out and put the actual numbers in for NC as 212 it’s 27,543 total for the US. I ran all the state totals.

WTH?

Rounding error. ;)

Shhh... You're not supposed to notice that, narrative and all.

North Carolina 6,764 14,427

So, over 14k have died from it, but only 7k had it.

Must be the new math.

It appears this chart is only reporting ~4,000 dead for NY. Wife thinks the NC number actually belongs to NY. No telling which state has NC's real number.

Rhode Island is way off as well. I noticed the ~20% fatality rate. 1204 Deaths / 5090 cases. So, I did some googling and a consistent return has been 150 deaths.

Good catch. Still drives the numbers down in total. My biggest issue is we don't need to be making decisions and driving public sentiment on bad numbers.

I'm also curious about Wyoming. Half the people that get it die?!

Agreed. I'm not a "data scientist", but I work with data that could have a major impact on people's lives. The first thing I do before releasing any data, even to colleagues, is to sanity check it!

This is surprising? People type in numbers on a web site wrong all the time, especially when those numbers are updated constantly. The web site is not what everyone in meetings is using. It is a mouthpiece to disseminate information to the public. I am sure they have an intern typing in the numbers on the site and it changes constantly. It is just an error that is glaringly obvious to anyone. Since they didn't catch it, you can bet that they don't take the web site numbers as something worth making sure is accurate... Your Government at work.

This is the problem. False information is being disseminated and influencing the public perception. Not that that ever happens.

None of the math works on on any of the charts and graphs at the CDC, there are not 45k deaths, period.

it's updated closer to reality now...still doesn't seem to be the most "up to date" compared to some other sites....

That is because humans are involved and they make mistakes. People assume "Those in charge" are ever vigilant and focused on every detail, when the reality is a lot of times the person updating things is one dude who is worried about what is for lunch. We have major conspiracies around things because people do dumb things, then other people think no one in charge would do that.
