Just my luck!!! :( Got home from work, let the dog out and as I was walking the driveway, I saw a suspiciously wet spot near the water meter...bad words immediately went through my head!

The good...I spotted it (guessing it happened last night or yesterday), it was right at the meter on my side, the ground was easy to dig because of all the rain, I found the crack quickly...we didn’t get any snow so it’s wet and cold but not snowy, wet and cold!

The bad...I’ve got PVC and fittings at the house...1/2, 3/4, 1 1/2, 2”...check...1” nope! I did happen to have a 1 inch slip to 3/4 male thread but as you can see, I need an “innie” 3/4 and not an “outtie”! My 2 bottles of glue are also dried out! Got plenty of primer though. It’s gonna freeze again tonight so I’ve had to cover it up and will turn it back on for showers in the morning. I’ll take tomorrow off to make a trip to the store for materials and spend some time digging and doing some DIY plumbing!

I will say that I’ve not seen a crack on a coupling like this one in this particular spot.

Won’t even mention what the wife was worried about in all of this......luckily, I gots sum skillzzz!

Be aware that freshly dug dirt will freeze easier. I got a leak last year. Then the repair froze and cracked a couple days later. Take some extra steps to protect it if it’s going no to get cold soon after

Good point!!! Supposed to be fairly mild here through the weekend after tonight but I’ll keep an eye on it. Thanks!

If you wrap a few turns of teflon pipe tape on the threads to the PVC solvent before you cap it back up, it will stay fresh and not dry out.
My ham radio buddy who retired from Verizon told me this tip.

Very home should keep some pvc fittings and a couple pipe sizes for an emergency. $30-40 bucks will get you out of a jam for 20 years. Also a o-ring kit is a good item to have and can be had for cheap at Harbour Freight.
