The "Did you shoot your NFA items today?" thread...

Probably the fewest stamps in use in quite awhile...

12” 6.8 SBR w/ YHM ULT

CZ 455 w/ AAC Element 2

I did have a 4th stamp in the truck, the 4” AR9 pistol with Form 1 can, but got so frustrated at the 6.8 I didn’t stop at the pistol bays and shoot the 9.

Some of them got shot...just not much by me. I had a coworker from TX in town visiting his family, and we met for lunch yesterday. Decided we’d hit the range for a quick visit this morning. Took six firearms to the range:
9mm SBR w/ Octane 9
15-22 SBR w/ F1 can
.45 AR pistol w/ Octane 45K
.410 AR firearm
10.5” Beowulf SBR
7.5” 5.56 AR pistol

I took these three pics as I was unpacking to send him...

Bought a Brass GOAT brass catcher by Magwell Mounts and tested it out yesterday. It is designed to fit mil spec lowers only but I gently forced it onto a billet POF lower without breaking it, fits a standard AERO lower just fine. It does help to wipe the receiver down with oil as suggested to prevent marring.

Shot some 300 Blackout & 5.56 in both semi and full auto and the Brass GOAT worked as claimed. Not a single case bounced back into the ejection port and jammed the action, I'm impressed!

I seldom shoot 300 BO on my auto lowers but I did yesterday to see if it would function with an A5 type buffer setup. This lower is configured with a PSA 308 RE, Tubb FW spring and Kynshot RB5007 hydraulic buffer. I was shooting my cast lead Hi-Tek coated subsonic reloads and the gun ran great.

The Ingram M11 tested some 124 grain reloads today . All worked fine in FA, so off to the reloader to make a bunch.

I have some 50 year old primers to test with some 45 year old Bullseye, but I'm going to use a Title 1 gun for that evaluation :)

Exciting shooting trip w/ @Gaston to test out my 3d printed optic mount. Worked way better than I expected with PETG. Even the clip on front sight was fine. It's way more comfortable to shoot with a dot. Shame how quick I get gassed out with the Ghost though. Guess it's time to buy a shorter can!

I am new to the NFA silencer game and know only a little more than I have learned here. I have two suppressors ordered and hope to get to learn more about using them. Been studying about Form 1 and may go that route for my 3rd stamp and create a SBR. As I understand it, I could have the Form 1 SBR before the suppressors.

I am a member at PHA. Would be interested in meeting up with someone that has a silence to actually hear the difference. Would love to meet a member there or for you to be my guest. I am allowed two guests so you could bring someone along. I can provide my own ammo. I have been using a Dillon press for over 25-years. Have a good stockpile of ammo that I made but also have a some factory ammo in many calibers.

I may know a guy that’s also a member of PHA...and rumor is he might have a silencer or two. 😎

what caliber(s) are you wanting to demo?

I saw this thread pop up and thought to myself, "I cant recall the last time I went to the range WITHOUT an NFA device."

Shooting unsuppressed just seems rude and my primary rifle is an SBR.

9 mm, 5.56 (.223 Remington), 7.62 X 51 (.308), and or 45 ACP. I really do not care which.

Saw your image above of the 50 Beowulf. I do have FACTORY ammo for that on hand.

Saw your M&P 15-22 above. That would even be as good as any of the ones listed above. I have a 15-22 but not as a SBR.

The two Beowulfs are the only rifles I have that I don’t have a silencer for. But you’re welcome to shoot the 10.5” one unsuppressed if you’re a glutton for punishment.

I can cover suppressed hosts for 9/5.56/45. I don’t own a .308, but if you had something with a threaded barrel we could try it out for a couple shots.

I’ll send you a PM to get something planned.

Gonna be some NFA action at PHA tomorrow. We’ll let @GaryS share his experience when we’re done. I know what’s been packed up, but not sure what will actually get shot at this point. 😎

Not a huge quantity of shots taken...but he got to see what 22/9/45/5.56 was like suppressed vs unsuppressed...

Thank you for your time, the education, and letting me shoot your silencers and SBRs. Your idea was great for me to bring my same caliber firearms so that you did not have to remove HOT cans. I think I like the 22 LRs the best. I am going to want a dedicated M&P 15-22 pistol with dedicated silencer. The LGS had one and I may end up with it. I also really liked the Rossi 22 LR. The Supersonic crack of the 5.56 and 9 mm can both be heard / noticed when using a silencer. I did like the subsonic 9 mm suppressed almost as much as the 22 LR suppressed.

I still feel like I owe you lunch or an after work or range beer.

The only concern with the new 15-22 pistol is the 8” barrel isn’t as likely to keep bulk pack subsonic as my 4.5” SBR. So you just have to test different types of ammo and see what sounds best.

Had my Roni SBR Glock 22 with 9mm Lone Wolf Alpha, Canik TP9SFT with Gemtech 45 and HK 416 .22 with Sparrow at Battery Oaks last Sunday.

Took a few guns and the 2 new cans to the range Tuesday, and shot them along with 4 guys from work.
The 300BO Handi Rifle and 9mm AR were the hit of the day. A lot of smiles were created, and a few future purchases were planned.

Sighted in a night vision scope my wife got me for Christmas. Used it with YHM Turbo.

Sighted in a Primary Arms 2.5x prism on my 6.8 rifle with a YHM Resonator.

Everything is gassed right and had zero issues. Along with the weather it was a nice day.

I took one shot (CB short) from the suppressed Rossi Gallery 22. Just wanted to check POA/POI at a shorter distance than the quick sight-in I did a week or two ago.

One shot. CCI CB short through pump 22 w/ Spectre.

Did that two other times in the last week or two.

😎

Visited my Sandman S in jail yesterday. Like a dummy I left my gas block wrench at home so couldn't adjust it. Next time I guess.

And no, I didn't shoot 22lr with the can on.

Stupid question, if you buy your suppressor at a store with a range you can use it (on site I'm assuming) before getting your stamp back? Just curious, I don't have any stamps out nor have I bought any from a gun store with a range but that might be worth considering in the future if I buy another can.

As long as they’ll agree to it, yes. Often jokingly called a conjugal visit while your item is in NFA jail.

There was a range around here that charged $10/visit for them to get it out and put it back up. But that along with their other ridiculous fees meant I never used them anyway.

Thanks, it never occurred to me you could try out a suppressor before getting your tax stamp back.

Yep. Most will do it. Some may not. Would also depend on if you bought it from them, or if you had it transferred in, and what the refund policy is.

Because even if you paid for it, it’s ok their books as the registered owner. And if you’re Disapproved for any reason, they now have a used silencer in their inventory.
