Took off for Nantahala Lake at 0 dark 30 Sunday morning. A college friend of mine has a cabin on the lake and he invited me up for the eclipse since the lake was in the zone of total coverage. He had picked up some eclipse glasses so I was covered there. But I hadn't been able to find a Shade 14 welding lens to use as a filter on the 35mm DSL so I tried taking a couple of shots with the iPhone, which didn't turn out worth a crap. But I did get a couple of good ones of the corona when the sun was totally covered and a couple of the boats out on the lake.
Observations:
1) the eclipse glasses worked.
2) it didn't get anything like as dark as I was expecting. I had a flashlight with me. Didn't began to need it.
3) Franklin, NC said it was the biggest event in the history of the town. And from the traffic that I ran into coming home today, I'd say that they were right.
