The "Garand was designed around M2 ball" myth exposed

I might actually over-grease my Garands a bit. But I can't imagine that will hurt anything unless I slop it down the barrel or gas tube.
Tell that to your shirt once it starts spitting grease all over...

I have one M1 from '42 and I've taken it out to shoot once in like the 10 years i've had it...
I'm signed up for the CMP builder class in august, but i'm not sure if they're going to cancel it yet.
 
In their defense, maybe they thought you clean guns the Swiss way, and leave grease in the barrel/chamber. Then again, it'd be their own fault for not cleaning the bore out before shooting it. :p

Which doesn't make sense as several weapons you expressly lube before firing. Such as most Japanese WW2 MGs or Swedish Ljungmans. I've seen lots of CLP dumped on SAWs never had a case head failure. I lube ammunition as required...like when forming .303 brit to 6.5 dutch or .243 to 6.5 jap. A light spritz of Hornady one shot does the trick.
