If you've not read the book, please do. It's a great book. I think that was my favorite Duvall movie, I don't think I've seen it since the mid '80s. But I do read the book every three or four years.
 
Truly odd that you posted that today. I watched it again with my wife and son on SUNDAY night.....I must have watched it 400 times as a child/young man and wanted to be a Marine Corps Aviator since a child. My family LOVED it. It's a complex movie that, when it's over, opens the floor to lots of discussion.
Duvall was awesome, as was Blythe Danner.
 
Just added it to my audible library.

Hopefully I won’t tbone some idiot while listening to it.
