Many of my friends are calling me wanting to know what the hell is going on with NRA, as if I ought to know. But all I know is from past observation and from what I’m reading almost daily in newspapers or internet blogs. Mind you, I’m on the outside: I am not, and never have been, on the NRA Board of Directors. But to try to answer them I wrote this encapsulation. Here’s how the situation looks to me. If what follows is not substantially true or seems unfair, I hope somebody on the inside hastens to correct me. Because it’s depressing.

I don't think we want to pull that curtain back for real. NRA is a lobbying firm working in DC. The last GD thing we want to see is CNN doing an expose on how the NRA goes about convincing congress to vote their way. I suspect that a lot of these shady money transfers we're told we should be angry about are really cover ups for business-as-usual in Washington.

uh... yeah guys... I spent a quarter million on suits last year... yeah.

The corruption runs so deep that nobody wants a true accounting of anything. I’m certain this is why the board of directors haven’t made any moves to disband the bandits. Richard Childress’s resignation is for me very telling. He smelled at rat and made sure his association was dissolved. I doubt you will hear a peep from Childress to refrain from being sued.

Huh. I can't believe I was so naive this didn't even occur to me.

Also a life member I welcome full disclosure so long as all involved, politicos included, get full prosecution. If we want the swamp drained every slimy critter in it needs to be exposed!

I want to see the politicians go first. And since I know that won’t happen, I’d rather this whole thing continue to be handled in-house. It may be very messy and bleed into the public eye and MSM but the less the MSM knows the better.

I say this not to sound like a big a NRA supporter, but because I recognize the importance of the role they play in DC. Perfect? Not even close. But still the most influential in our corner.

In our corner; Not even close to being in our corner.

I think you’re looking for perfect. Like I said, they are far from it, but still in our corner. They are the gorilla that the left demonizes because they are the ones who CAN help us most (aside from us all banding together but people simply won’t do that).

They could help us, but they don’t seem to actually do much effective, and are far to willing to compromise on or even support further infringements.

Their purpose as far as I am concerned is to combat any and all infringements. Period. They are failing.

Their core competency and goal seems to be fundraising.

Haha again, far from perfect but still the most influential in our corner. No one is arguing the NRA’s effectiveness or level of 2A support.

The NRA may have flaws, very serious flaws. Hopefully those flaws will not prove to be fatal. The NRA has been and still remains the face that liberals see when they think of gun owners. It is the enemy they love to hate because it has historically opposed their agenda on many occasions. It may not currently be doing everything we would like it to do, but it is still perceived as being a thorn in the side of the liberal commie maggots who want to take all our firearms. Destroying the NRA would be a huge feather in their cap. Any negative press the libs can write about it, true or fabricated, casts a negative light on all gun owners. My hope is that the NRA can get its house in order without too much damage to itself or to the 2A.

I do not claim to know much about the practices of lobbyists in Washington. I can not imagine that there are not some situations in which laws are not bent a bit by both liberals and conservatives. I would almost guarantee that the conservatives would catch the grief while the libs would get another pass if the truth about what actually goes on in the halls of Congress was revealed. The NRA would be a focal point for the attack by the liberal press.

I didn’t know he had resigned
