THE LIMITS OF HOME DEFENSE

Smith was pissed about being robbed previously and basically setup a trap for the 2 ā€¦ down to removing light bulbs. He setup what amounted to an ambush in the basement and waited. ā€œLying in waitā€ is a condition in quite a few states and thatā€™s what Smith basically did. Part of me says good riddance but him holding off calling the LEOā€™s until the next day along with his ā€œprepsā€ ā€¦ only thing he was missing was leaving the front door wide open.

"Smith, a retired security engineer who worked overseas for the U.S. Department of State,"

Wonder how much calculus you need to study to be a "security engineer".

He did get rid of some Cockroaches, but it sounds like he went a little too far. He had to know his tactics would lead to jail time, may be he didn't care at that time? šŸ¤”

I am a believer that we need to handle Cockroaches differently than we are today. They should not be a called a victim when they broke into your home.

Or just maybe he watched a little too much TV and believed it!

He deserves every minute in prison that he serves. I hope he dies there and big Willie makes him his bitch.

While he may have done society a favor and cleansed the gene pool a little, what he did was pre-meditated murder. Pure and simple. That makes him no better than the scum that he killed. If not worse.
We are not judge, jury and executioners. I'm not one of the "cool kids" on this board, and have probably just become less so. I don't care. Anyone has a problem with this post can go eff off.

I have zero issues with anything this guy did prior to killing the 2 scumbags execution style, I can certainly see circumstances where doing so would be morally justified, but probably not legally, I just canā€™t imagine a case where a simple B&E would excuse executing two people, no matter how pissed off someone is.

The only successful way to set a trap is to make it look as though there was never a trap set.
And that is exactly what he didn't do. If he'd shot them both then called police,I'd had no problem with what he did but to go up finished them then basically hide them that's not right. I mean even if he'd just buried them least then he could've pleased insanity

Based on the description of what went down the homeowner missed the most important part about home defense: Shooting people dead is the LAST resort, not the go to first option.

i understand the play stupid games win stupid prizes ,but this was unjustified however you look at it in my eyes ,shouldā€™ve called the cops first and immediately after the shooting ,and should not have just been waiting there for them

I have no problem with him waiting for them. he retreated to the safety of his basement...
i have no problem with him shooting them as they came down the stairs
it was that execution at the end and then NOT calling the police with a good story that did him him.

Well technically it was telling his neighbor that did him in. if he would have just shut up and gone about the business of disposing of the bodies, they probably never would have caught him. I'm not saying that is or isn't the right thing to do... just saying that it's what got him in the end.

In this case I think there's a clear line between self-defense and cold blooded murder. And he waltzed right over it.

There is a degree of vengeance and planning here that goes well beyond what any rational person would attempt.

And if you disagree well....can we at least agree that he was beyond stupid in running his mouth.

This is were i disagree with current society, people should have the right to defend their property, up to and killing the offenders.
If I were on his jury, I highly doubt I would have convicted him. Thieving trash gets what it deserves. The legal system can kiss my behind. I am under no obligation to uphold it's BS dribble in it's joke courts.
in the eyes of the law, its better for those "good kids" to continue to victimize, rob, kill, etc

capture and release, our criminal justice system is a joke
Man was doing good work, our legal system be damned.

Agree.

It is amazing the extent to which some people will bend over and take it in order to make it "fair" for criminals. I suppose we could call anyone who hardens their home or has a defense plan "premeditating cold blooded murderers" or accuse them of "setting traps." God forbid I sit in my own home not fully illuminated for the criminals so they won't have all of the advantages. I am more convinced every day that hand wringing fence sitters who happen to own guns are more of a problem for America than lefties. These must be the people padding the surveys for "gun owners who want more background checks."

All he had to do was call the cops after they took a tumble. Case closed.

The idea that he "lured them to rob him" by moving his truck and pretending not to be home is utterly and laughably ridiculous.

But yeah, homie made some bad decisions and choices after that!
